Synthesizers.com Q173 Gate Math & Q131 Custom MATRIXSYNTH Panel!

A synthesizers.com Q173 Gate Math arrived at my PMB today! It is the latest edition to my synthesizers.com Box11 system - click through for some pics and an overview of the system, pre-Q173.

To my surprise, a custom MATRIXSYNTH branded Q131 panel was included! How cool is that?

Further below you will also see the cover of the current synthesizers.com product brochure, the Q173 manual, a synthesizers.com business card which folds into a modular cabinet, and if you look closely at the top left corner of the MATRIXSYNTH branded Q131 panel, you will see small, flat, transparent 1/4 jack keychain trinket. It's actually pretty cool, and it will have a permanent home in my studio.

Thank you synthesizers.com!

Jasper Wasp, DX7II and TR-909 clone test with HQ Sound!!

Published on Mar 30, 2017 Todd Murray

"Here I am using an Arturia Keystep to clock my big MFOS (DIY) sequencer and run the DX7II (off screen) on MIDI. The MFOS sequencer is triggering the 909 (DIY) clone triple toms and kick. The Wasp (DIY) is played freestyle, no sequencer or trigger.

Ya, I know the video sucks, but this is about the sound of the Hexinverter Nein-oh-Nein PCBs and the wasp. I recorded the sound off the mixer and then synched it to the video track using Adobe Premiere. I am ever amazed at how I can run multiple digital and DIY analog synths with the Arturia Keystep.

- Nein-oh-Nein clone is the red panel unit
- MFOS Sequencer (4 x 16 CV/Gate/Trigger) large blue unit at top of screen
_ Arturia on table top
- Jasper Wasp is the black unit I am tweaking
- Yamaha DX7IIFD is off screen and behind me.

Details on the New Tiptop Audio Fold Processor

Fold Processor from Tiptop Audio on Vimeo.

"The Fold Processor is a voltage controlled analog effect ideal for adding a distortion or rough edges to any sound passing through it. The fold circuit is based on the classic diode wave multiplier that adds odd harmonics by ‘folding’ the incoming signal with increased gain. Its noisy analog character is part of the charm.

Internally there are two sections, a wave folder section followed by a sub divide generator. The wave folder creates the classic fold sweeping effect and has a dedicated output jack. The subdivide generator squares the fold output generating 4 more sounds spaced one octave apart, each with its own gain knob, and all are mixed together at the Subdivide output jack. Adjustable bias from the Inject control and Fold knob are both voltage controlled and alter the bias point for the subdivider creating instability of the divider circuit. Overall results can sound evil at times and sweet at others, a true devil."
