RK-002 Polyphony/PolyMUX on the Volca Sample

Published on May 30, 2017 Retrokits

"As of RK-002 Volca Sample firmware v47+ you can now use chromatic and polyphonic play on the volca sample!

In earlier firmwares it was already possible to set one specific channel to respond to MIDI keys and play a melody; MIDI Program Change messages 1-10 would fix a volca sample channel to chromatic play but with our new firmware this has been expanded:

Now Program Change 11-19 will reserve the amount of channels used for polyphonic (and chromatic) play.
The RK-002 will evenly divide pressed keys across the reserved channels. It's comparable to the PolyMUX implementation we did on the RK-002 Volca FM firmware

An example:
Sending Program Change 13 will reserve the 1st three Volca Sample channels for polyphony. Pressing a chord will trigger these three channels. If you set the same sample to all these channels you will have a bit of a lo-fi sample player.
Volca Sample MIDI parameter changes are sent to all reserved channels so you can change multiple channel sound properties at once (e.g. a mapped filter value on the modulation wheel will affect all polymuxed channels).

Mind you - the volca sample can normally not play samples chromatically, nor does it respond to note off-messages. The way we achieved this is a pure hack. Best playing range is about 2 octaves and sometimes sounds are a bit out of tune.

Having this said: It is again more loads of fun with the Volca Sample!

Some tips:
* Pan the channels a bit differently
* set loop points (or even map sample start on velocity)
* reverse play
* play with reverb.
* change samples across PolyMUX channels

... and... use the internal sequencer to also trigger the PolyMUXed channels. This way playing keys can tune the affected channels instantly to the correct pitch. Your volca sample sequencer can be used to program a 16 step arpeggiator like this."

3x Microbraids Demo Test

Published on May 30, 2017 karlmarxstadt

"This is a quick stoic rythmic improvistation using 3 DIY 'Microbraids' oscillator modules.

The patch is very reduced, but shows some of the possibilities of using braids for percussion, chords and ... well... more percussion :)

Units in the patch:
-Verbos Multistage as Sequencer Triggering all three Modules,
as well as sequencing CV inputs on #1 and #2
-Slight attenuation of CV via Pittsburgh Mixer,
-Audio from all 3 Braids gets mixed into a L1 Mixer and then fed into the Schippmann filter, just to soften the timbre.

Line recording audio with no additional effects.

The module on the left uses a blue OLED display, the two on the right are in white.

I have a friends who builds these. Let him know what you think, if you have any questions, let me know."

Futureretro Transient Now Shipping

Published on May 30, 2017 FutureRetroSynths

"May 30th 2017, Futureretro release the Transient drum module."

Futureretro Transient

"The Transient takes a different approach to generating drum sounds, and the results it produces are really quite unique.

More than 400 samples are the basis of sound in the Transient. These samples include sounds from classic drum machines as well as modern drum and percussion sounds from the XS and UDS (an unreleased product of ours).
The voice architecture in the Transient is unique in that it allows plain old samples to really come to life, and sound natural with variations, and response to dynamics and other control voltages.

Although designed to recreate single drum instrument voices, the Transient can sound as though entire beats or loops are being generated. More than just a sample playback module, the Transient really is a well featured drum voice synthesizer, including two sample voices, loads of AM/Ring/Sample/CV modulation possibilities, voice crossfader, mixers, dynamics and multimode filter sections, and even digital effects.

The Transient comes loaded with more than 250 Preset instruments to get users going immediately, and provides 40 User locations to store custom Instrument settings to."

Sequentix Cirklon Sequencing Roland TB303 with Devil Fish Mod

Published on May 30, 2017 Meta Function

"In this video, Meta Function demonstrate sequencing a Roland TB303 with the Devil Fish mod via the Sequentix Cirklon.

The Cirklon is arguably the most intuitive and sturdy hardware sequencer ever made. It features five ports of MIDI I/O, four virtual USB ports and via the CVIO beak out box (BOB), sixteen CV and eight gate outputs. It has an incredibly tight clock and works great as the center of any electronic music based studio.

In this video the Fish receives note pitch and gate over CV/gate via the BOB. CV out 3 is connected to Accent in the Fish, with CV out 4 connect to Slide in. Inside the P3 pattern driving the Fish, Aux A is routed to CC 1 and Aux B is routed to CC 2, which in turn are routed within the Cirklon's CVIO Config menu to drive CV out 3 and 4 respectively. Whenever Aux A/B is over a value of 64, the measure features an accent/slide. A one bar pattern is created on the fly and slides and accents are added. Pattern direction modes are manipulated then drums from an Elektron Analog Rhytm are edited via a CK track. The one bar P3 Fish pattern is doubled and edited and transpose and force to scales modes are manipulated. Note measures are ganged/unganged and note lengths are tweaked. Finally the timebase is adjusted.

Audio recorded via Calrec S2 console and SSL convertors. All dry, no FX, EQ or compression. The only post production performed was normalization.

Watch at 1080p with good quality audio monitoring for the best experience.

Meta Function developed the Max For Live synthesizer, the Wave Junction in partnership with Sonicstate.com. A four voice paraphonic synth with 2 multi-mode osc, three multi-mode filters, 5 LFOs, 5 Envs and a 12 slot modulation matrix.

You can buy it from Sonicstate right here for £19.95:

Note: Ableton Live 9.6.1 and Max4Live 7.2.2 required."

Sound design and some crazy powerful features of the Synthstrom Deluge

Published on May 30, 2017 loopop

"The Synthstrom Deluge goes far deeper than just a big sequencing grid - the underlying synth has a few crazy powerful features.

I put together a clip with some of the surprises found under the hood.

Things like sample and filter layering, morphing single cycle waveforms (not sure it's intended for this but it works…) and a crazy powerful mod matrix make this a standout synth machine.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll be happy to respond in the comments.

Here's a link to download the single cycle waveforms mentioned in the clip:

Dreadbox NYX Analog Synthesizer Patch 3: The High-Pass Mosquito

Published on May 30, 2017 SYNTH ANATOMY

"Dreadbox NYX is a new paraphonic analog Synthesizer from Greece. It includes two oscillators, 2 filters, three modulators and a great reverb. In the third patch, I designed a kind of mosquito drone sound with the high-pass filter and the reverb. Extra modulation coming from oscillator 2 to oscillator 1 and some modulation from Modulator 2 to the Pulse width amount."

Fugue Machine Eurorack Dynamic Sequence

Published on May 29, 2017 chisel316

"I created a sequence in Fugue Machine and sent it out to my Eurorack. Besides the MIDI to CV, all the modules used are from the Kraftzwerg. The first playhead is controlling the pitch of a single oscillator. The other three playheads are controlling the dynamics.

Playhead 1 - Osc 1 pitch (Pittsburgh MIDI2 for MIDI to CV)
Playhead 2 - Filter cutoff (Pittsburgh MIDI2 for MIDI to CV)
Playhead 3 - Osc 1 pulse width (Microbrute for MIDI to CV)
Playhead 4 - VCA (MS-20 Mini for MIDI to CV)

Hope you enjoy it!
