Moog Circuit Bending Challenge 2018

Published on Apr 14, 2018 Mike Sisk

"This is my entry to the 2018 Moog Circuit Bending Challenge. I circuit bent a Barbie Karaoke by adding multiple feedback distortions, pitch adjustments, and delay length. I also added an "Atari Punk Console" built with a 556 IC as a sound source and a low pass filter that is controlled by a small joystick from an old Playstation controller. Also added an old telephone handset as a microphone input.

I call this device the "Atari Punk Barbie."

4-Minute Improvised Volca Jam #4 (2018-03-29)

Published on Apr 14, 2018 Slenterende Beer

"Our fourth attempt at a short improvised jam for the #VOLCAJAMII contest on the "Korg Volca Series" Facebook group. We picked this one as our entry to the contest. What we liked most about this one is how, through improvisation, the melodies and bass line come together really well.

Korg Volca Sample + Waldorf 2-Pole Analog Filter
Korg Volca Bass + Zoom MS-50G
Korg Volca FM + Zoom MS-70CDR
Korg Volca Keys + GFI System Specular Reverb V2
Behringer XENYX QX1002USB

Recorded with iPhone 7 and Behringer UCA202.
The little black boxes connected to the Volcas are ground loop isolators, to reduce background noise."

Mutable Instruments Plaits, Marbles & Stages Self-Patched Modular Beta Testing Beats

Published on Apr 14, 2018 mylarmelodies

"This is a little weird sound experiment (light on melodies, high on mylar - skip to 6:10 for more melodicness) I recorded while beta-testing the new Mutable Instruments Plaits, Marbles and Stages, which I received all at once. When I put them all together in the case, I was struck by something: These three new modules, perhaps with the addition of a Clouds for effects and some utilities/VCAs like Blinds and Veils, are in effect like having a complete little Mutable 'Music Easel', in just three core modules.

This is especially because of the way that Plaits makes it so easy to switch modes, so that on a per-step basis it'll make a different sound - it can fill out the sound spectrum far more than it seems it has any right to. The ensemble is incredibly capable and flexible, and an amazing thing to have if you're interested in the whole 'generative' thing.

I was very struck by the elegance of what Olivier has achieved, especially with Stages, and look forward to getting to know these better. I'm going to be using them in my live system, but I wish in a way I had another set I could just put in a small system, something self-contained and fixed, to focus on and explore.

For more, I recommend Lightbath's Loom series which explores these (and the idea of building a system out of them!)"

Fragment - Abstract ambient JAM - Subtractive / Karplus / PM / Additive / Granular

Published on Apr 14, 2018 Fragment Synthesizer

You can find additional posts featuring examples of Fragment here.

"Fragment is an online collaborative additive / spectral / granular / subtractive / PM synthesizer and live-coding web. platform, the spectrum is created by a live GPU script, the generated visual is then converted to audio by an additive/granular/spectral/subtractive/PM process, Fragment is basically a programmable noise-of-all-kinds software.

This is a video of a live jam session featuring all types of synthesis (in order : subtractive / physical modelling / additive-fm / granular) supported by Fragment and the improved subtractive synthesis algorithm (Poly BLEP) which allow fast and anti-aliased subtractive synthesis, this is still WIP (problems with filter resonance) but quite usable as demonstrated with several acid-like patterns!

Renoise DAW is used in the background to output audio + MIDI out and add reverb / delay (Fragment is also used for delay effects).

4 instances of the sound server are used on an Intel i7 7700, 14Gb of RAM and a gtx 970 GPU.

Jomox Alpha Base - 50 factory kit demo

"Again, title says it all. This is a step through of all 50 of the factory kits inside the Jomox Alpha Base straight out of the box. No external effects (raw audio output) but the unit does provide internal reverb and delay which seems to be applied in some kits"
