"Today we combine a nature walk and music together in a new way. Music Vlog will take music into the outside world, this is my first test run. The mobile setup will get more evolved in later videos."

Akai MPC 1000 - Tutorial Part 7 - Controlling a Modular Synthesizer - Midiverse - TV - MVM #112

Published on Apr 23, 2018 Midiverse - TV

"What's up everybody? Welcome to Midiverse - TV! Today we're going to talk about using the Akai MPC1000 with a Modular Synthesizer.

Using the assignable outputs of the MPC we're able to trigger the drum modules that are in the rack. So we can play the drum modules in real time using the pads, as well recording MIDI sequences, so we can loop our drum parts.

Then we're using a MIDI to Control Voltage converter, which gives us four channels of CV and Gate outputs for use with the Modular Synthesizer.

Also remember we post a new video every Monday.

Modular Sketches March / April 18

Published on Apr 23, 2018 csmcrckrs

"Some Instagram digest ... short takes, no multitracking, only modular, no other synths used. With the last 2 clips, I was just starting out with instagram and ended up recording cam sound only.

Phase modulation of the Analog Devices AD9833 DDS

Published on Apr 23, 2018 DutchBigEd

"This is a short demo of phase modulation of the Analog Devices AD9833 DDS chip with an Arduino (Atmega328p).
First part is where the hard sync input frequency is varied, than the phase of the hard sync is modulated en than the frequentie of the ad9833 is modulated.

The last part all three variables are modulated.

The sync input is PD2 (INT0), the phase input is ADC0 (PC0) and the Frequency input to control the AD9833 is ADC1 (PC1)."

Note this is the first post to feature the Analog Devices AD9833 DDS chip. You can find previous DIY videos from DutchBigEd here.

via Analog Devices:

"The AD9833 is a low power, programmable waveform generator capable of producing sine, triangular, and square wave outputs. Waveform generation is required in various types of sensing, actuation, and time domain reflectometry (TDR) applications. The output frequency and phase are software programmable, allowing easy tuning. No external components are needed. The frequency registers are 28 bits; with a 25 MHz clock rate, resolution of 0.1 Hz can be achieved. Similarly, with a 1 MHz clock rate, the AD9833 can be tuned to 0.004 Hz resolution.

The AD9833 is written to via a 3-wire serial interface. This serial interface operates at clock rates up to 40 MHz and is compatible with DSP and microcontroller standards. The device operates with a power supply from 2.3 V to 5.5 V.

The AD9833 has a power-down function (SLEEP). This allows sections of the device that are not being used to be powered down, thus minimizing the current consumption of the part, e.g., the DAC can be powered down when a clock output is being generated.

The AD9833 is available in a 10-lead MSOP package.

Applications

Frequency Stimulus/Waveform Generation
Liquid and Gas Flow Measurement
Sensory Applications–Proximity, Motion, and Defect Detection
Line Loss/Attenuation
Test and Medical Equipment
Sweep/Clock Generators
Time domain reflectometry (TDR) applications"

Dave Smith Instruments In The Spotlight With the OB-6 and DAN MOORE – MODULUS III

You can find the full interview on DSI's website here.

"Modulus III is an instrumental live electronica trio based in Bristol, UK and comprised of multi-instrumentalists Dan Moore and Drew Morgan, with drummer Matt Brown. The trio recorded their self-titled debut LP at a live performance in their home town of Bristol. The resulting record was released in 2018 on vinyl, CD and digital.

Despite having the chops of top-level session instrumentalists, Modulus III’s musical manifesto is a reaction against the tendency for virtuosity for virtuosity’s sake in a lot of modern/nu jazz, and is more philosophically akin with the post-Sun Ra-esque aspirations of fellow post-jazz, electronica space cadets such as The Comet Is Coming, the hypnotic, polyrhythmic explorations of Steve Reich, and the expansive, improvisatory ethos of early 70’s Miles Davis. We chatted with Dan about how he’s using the OB-6."
