Fragment - FM/Additive & Processing.js input

Published on Aug 17, 2018 Fragment Synthesizer

"Fragment is an online collaborative programmable noise-of-all-kinds realtime audio / visual software.

This video demonstrate additive / FM synthesis with the new Processing.js feature (available on GitHub, not yet released) which allow the creation and live-coding of Processing.js sketches inside Fragment.

Sketches are manipulated as a texture inside the fragment shader like any other inputs.

Processing.js is the sister project of the popular Processing visual programming language, it is a powerful language for graphics programming which allow to do any kind of visuals and logic.

You can try the Fragment synthesizer now at : https://www.fsynth.com"

NuEVI Tutorial #1 - Overview - Mark Steiner

Published on Aug 17, 2018 Mark Steiner

"Overview of the main sensors/controls of the NuEVI. Also explores some of the sounds and styles of music it does well.

Find out exactly how the fingering works... an elegant and efficient method that covers 7 octaves very consistently and reliably.

Special thanks to Nyle Steiner, Johan Berglund, Steve Anderson, James Ingenito, Erik Klein, Christa Steiner and me (Mark Steiner)."

Synthrotek Low Pass Gate - Critical Listening Demo - West Coast Modular

http://store.synthrotek.com/LPG_c_174...

"Put on some headphones and get into the mix of the Synthrotek West Coast System!

The LPG is a West Coast Synthesis staple! Our dual Low Pass Gate creates organic percussion timbres, paving the way for sonic exploration with a Buchla/Subotnick vibe.

The LPG has two identical low pass gates in one module. Its unique non-linear qualities emulate percussion timbres like congas, bongos, plucks, etc. The LPG is vactrol based, which creates natural-sounding decays. When the CV input is pinged by short/fast envelopes, it results in more organic sounds like bongos. The slide pot functions in two ways: when the the CV input is not patched, it attenuates/mixes the audio signal. When the CV jack is patched, it attenuates the output level and changes the timbre of the audio signal.

Each LPG channel can be used as a VCA. VCA mode bypasses the low pass filter and resonance and doesn't color the sound of your input audio. The vactrol gives the VCA a living, breathing, non-linear response.

We tested a number of vactrols for this module, and we liked the pre-tested NSL-7053 best of all. The NSL-7053 has a slower response and a more exponential response curve. The VTL5C4 has a slightly faster response and a more linear response curve. But the LPG will work with a number of different types/brands, including dual vactrols. In fact, each channel can be built with a different set of vactrols."

PMF Toggle 2

Published on Aug 17, 2018 Randy Piscione

"Quick "demo" of the PM Foundations Toggle Eurorack Module. Not really a demo, just playing around and thought I would use the pattern for a brief bit of improv. Get the Toggle here: http://www.tindie.com/stores/pmfounda....

Rather than switch the toggle with a gate or LFO, I used a pair of function generators driven by a common clock for the Toggle CV inputs. The LEDs on the Toggle show the rhythm. Four VCOs go into four filters, which go into the four Toggle inputs, and the two outputs go to the VCAs and then the final mixer. EGs are driven from the function generators as well. The rhythm is just the filter audio outs timed by the function generators."

Novation // PadCulture - The Story Of The Launchpad Lightshow

Published on Aug 17, 2018 NovationTV

"Novation have released a new film, showcasing the community of YouTube artists who make Lightshow videos, which often garner millions of views from around the globe. Profiling six prominent Lightshow creators, the film unmasks those who have built, and continue to grow, the scene. Beginning with what is regarded as the scene’s catalyst — Madeon’s Pop Culture video (from which the film derives its title) — it follows the chronology of the Lightshow movement, from creators getting their first Launchpads to their first million video hits, and what it actually takes to be a Launchpad performer.

The film features in-depth interviews with Exige (AUS), Kaskobi (UK), Madeon (FR), M4SONIC (AUS), Nev (US) and R!ot (US). Each artist contributes to guiding the narrative, as they recall their personal milestones and give their perspective on the scene. They recall the early days of the Lightshow, the inherent limitations of the original Launchpad, and how Novation’s technical advances allowed them to make ever more complex performances. They also discuss the tensions in the scene — the accusations and implications of people ‘faking it’ by miming to or pre-programming their LED shows — but also the shared goal of moving the scene onward for the mutual benefit of the entire community of creators and their audiences.

As a brand, Novation has supported the Lightshow community in various forms over the years. In 2014, they invited Australian Launchpad artist M4SONIC as a resident artist on the Novation booth at Winter NAMM. More recently, collaborations with creators Nev and Kaskobi showed cutting-edge applications of the Launchpad. This latest project with the Lightshow community finally breaks open some of the secrecy surrounding the scene in a story of hard work, limitless imagination, extreme technical prowess and tremendous personal triumph.

Pad Culture // The Story Of the Launchpad Lightshow was produced in-house at Novation and was Directed by Chris Mayes-Wright, whose 2014 film about the Focusrite Studio Console captured the imagination of many music professionals. The aim for this latest piece, says Chris, was “To look at Lightshow creators from another angle, both metaphorically and literally — I didn’t want a single overhead shot in the piece! My goal was for the audience to actually meet the creators and find out what inspires them.
