Introducing Manis Iteritas Magnus

Published on Sep 6, 2018 Noise Engineering

"In this demo, Tom Hall walks us through the the new Manis Iteritas Magnus, the 5U/large format version of our Eurorack Manis Iteritas synth.

5:55 Patch Description
7:25 Patch to end all patches with MIM and BIM

MIM is a voice based on the architecture of Basimilus Iteritas, but designed to be more gritty and aggressive. It accomplishes this by using only sawtooth waves that are manipulated, modulated, and distorted through a rethought interface. Manis is suitable for leads, bass lines, drums, darkness, detuned madness, or pure mayhem.

MIM ships September 21, 2018 with special introductory pricing that won't last long!. For more information, visit your local retailer or Noise Engineering's website at: https://www.noiseengineering.us/shop/"

BIM is a simple six-oscillator additive synthesizer with adjustable waveform, harmonic spread and decay. Adjustable attack including a noise oscillator is also included. These are summed and fed into an infinifolder for crunch and variety.

Sea People - Hardware / No DAW Jam #36

Published on Sep 6, 2018 Jay Hoskins

Title: Sea People
Genre: Electronic Melodic Ambient Downtempo
Artist: Rite Rain Causality - Jay Hoskins

In this track the Tonestar 2600 provides the bass line sequenced by the Timbrewolf. I wanted to try longer patterns in the eurorack so all four channels of the Timbrewolf are used and switched through a sequential switch. The gates are independent of the cv and generated by the Turing machine. The Minilogue provides an initial pad and then a melody is recorded live into the sequencer. The circuit is doing drum duty and additional bass reinforcement. Finally the MS-20 is adding some lead pads. Delay and reverb are from the Flashback and Hall of Fame.

Played live without a computer and recorded directly from the mixer outputs.

Endorphin.es BLCK NOIR (7 analogue drums with VCF, modulation, performance controls, FX & more!)

Published on Sep 6, 2018 DivKidVideo

"**TIMING INDEX / SECTIONS BELOW** Here's the new BLCK_NOIR from Endorphin.es. It's a 7 voice drum module with 7 all analogue and discrete circuit drum voices. There's kick, snare, tambourine, closed and open hi hats, metallic beat and cymbal. Endorphin.es say this is fine tuned for Darkwave and Techno but you can of course use it for a wide range of styles. It's got a classic early/vintage drum machine vibe similar to the CR-78 in nature but with a few updates. You can tune and adjust the length of the kick (as well as saturate the mix out with it) there's tuning and noise level / noise decay for the snare then 5 additional noise based voices that share blend controls to adjust from white or metallic noise and you can also bit crush these for further variation. There's CV inputs for noise blend, bit crush, bass drum decay and snare decay/noise. There's an on board isolator style filter that will low pass and high pass and a resonance control both with CV. You can clock the module which allows you to play fills holding the drum buttons and as a secondary function with no clock you can finger drum or mute those parts too. There's a bonus sample and hold generated when the module is clocked (great to patch back into the module). Not only can you trigger the drums but you can also control them with an on board VCA accepting 0-5V to control the velocity of each sound. There's individual outs, a mono mixed out, a stereo line level / headphones out and those 8 great 'Airways' FX we've seen in the Grand Terminal. There's a lot to get through so watch in full or skip around with the sections below which will link you to each part of the demo. Cheers! :)

3 Modules #73: Dixie 2+, Marbles, Maths

Published on Sep 6, 2018 Comparative Irrelevance

"I call this one 'choking pulse waves'. Who knows, maybe Eurorack Generative Lo-Fi Video Game Boss Music will be the next big thing?

This patch consists of two voices, where both take advantage of pulse width modulation to "choke out" the sound between notes. I don't know if there's a technical term for this ("this" being pulses that are extremely wide or slim to the point of disappearing), but it reminds me of dying batteries. In the world of effect pedals – analog distortions in particular – a dying battery or underpowered PSU can sometimes be used deliberately to achieve a certain sound. This is called a sustained voltage sag, or voltage "starving". So starving or strangling is what comes to my mind when I hear the sound of disappearing pulse waves. Lovely.
