Modular Monthly: Musical randomisation with the Winter Modular Eloquencer

Published on Nov 2, 2018 Future Music Magazine

"Eloquent by name, eloquent by nature? Winter Modular's debut module is all about making things random, but it can be very musical too. Let’s see how fluent and flowing our sequences can be..."

u-he Repro-5 musical synth demo

Published on Nov 2, 2018 once upon a synth

"Demo of the U-He Repro 5 softsynth plugin. These are some of my favourite presets (all stock). The Repro-5 is a clone of the SCI Prophet 5 and it sounds fantastic in my opinion. No external effects are used, so if you hear a reverb it's from the plugin itself. The Blofeld is only used as a MIDI controller, all the sounds are from the Repro-5 running on my computer.

Sorry I don't have the names of the presets. I tried to do a screen recording by half-way through it got too CPU intensive running alongside the Repro-5 so I had to shut it off cause it was affecting the sound. I'm going to try and find a better way to do this next time. But they're all stock presets so they shouldn't be too hard to find if you browse through them. I was browsing presets in the order in which they appear in the library."

"ReBach CATCH series String sounds demo.

Beautiful string-sounds from a eurorack is possible.

With three times the CATCH series VCO-A, one VCF-A and one ADSR-A are beautiful string-sounds to produce.
For this demo we have added the legendary Smallstone Phase Shifter. Together they make an impressive sound!"

Four Brick Rock-Shakmat Modular unboxing and first impression

Published on Nov 2, 2018 Dziam Bass

"Today we have a little unboxing and first impression of this great Four Brick Rock module from Shakmat Modular , it's a great tool, a super quick trigger sequencer - I'm boldly comparing it to MPC with only 4 pads.
It quickly records and plays drums, quantizes and has mute / unmute functions for these 4 sounds, instant cleaning and recording again on the fly and in Fill mode you create mega controlled Rolls with adjustable offset.
Trigger sequencer, clock connection, reset, tables to create the right parts of the sequence, load and save patterns, sequence length from 1 to 32 steps is only part of this small module, plugs connect trigger to your drums or module with samples and then the fun achieves a new level .
Definitely a great module for arranging our modular systems."

F.M. Synthesis. A Catalogue of Materials. 02 Wood

Published on Nov 2, 2018 Element433

All parts here.

"This is the second installment from the 'FM Catalogue of Materials' synthesis cinematic videos.
These are intermediate level F.M. synthesis, so they require a little knowledge of synthesis in general. Each video contans the blueprint for the synthesis of the basic sound of physical resonant materials such as metal, wood, air, strings as used in musical instruments. Some of the videos cover more abstract electronic Sounds and SFX.

The parameters on the videos are from the VOPM free FM plugin. They are the same as the Yamaha FB01 and CX5M. They will work on most Yamaha 4 operator FM synths. They work well on, Preen FM2, Korg early FM synths and NI FM7 and FM8 too
http://www.geocities.jp/sam_kb/VOPM/

Synthesis Parameters
The idea behind this series is to provide the most universal F.M. parameters (mainly frequency ratio data) from which to create variations of the 'material' timbres in the videos. You will be surprised how much variation is possible by changing the fundamental frequency and the inharmonic frequency of the bells.

LFO. This is the most important parameter for creating the "woodiness".

The LFO wave must be a random wave (sometimes called Sample and Hold)
Set the speed to max and then dial in depth/intensity until you get the wood texture. You will also notice it creates ambient reverberation. Unfortunately the DX7 LFO's are to slow to create this effect. On the Sy77 and TG77 use a noise operator as an alternative.

Levels and Envelopes
Level and envelope data varies quite a lot depending on the model of F.M. device you have so they were omitted here, however, it is fairly easy to work them out by listening and following the order in the video.

1. Make sure you have the correct algorithm.

2. Start with the first operator as the loudest operator (full level). Then get the level for each subsequent operator. Follow the order in which they are switched on in the video and experiment to get the timbre as close to the videos as possible.

2. The envelopes are pretty easy to work out and are fairly obvious if you listen to each operator as it is switched on in the video.

Unfortunately because of time constraints, I am unable to offer support."

Two Memorymoogs (by Synthpro)

Published on Nov 1, 2018 synthpro

"Hey Guys,

I decided to do something a little different tonight. I just rebuilt this Memorymoog Plus, (the unit closest to me in the video) for my friend Mitch and couldn't resist playing two memorymoogs together.

Its a very rough take but just having some fun.

My personal memorymoog has some of my own programming and am running it through a Pigtronix Echolution pedal.

Thanks for watching and all the support!

sincerely,
Jareth"
