Novation Offers free D16 Nithonat Plugin Drum Machine & 50% Discount Rest of the D16 Range

"Novation has revealed the latest offer for members of its Sound Collective community: the availability of D16 Group’s Nithonat plugin for free and a 50% discount off everything else in the D16 online store. Nithonat will be available for download from 4 April to 6 June, and the 50% D16 store discount runs from 4 April to 4 July.

Nithonat is a supercharged plug-in emulation of Roland’s classic TR-606 drum machine for Mac and PC, expanding on the original design with an array of extra sound-shaping controls, improved step sequencing, multiple outputs to the host DAW, MIDI Learn and more. It’s a characterful, fully synthesised virtual beatbox primed for bringing a touch – or a fistful – of vintage flavour to your hip-hop, EDM, R&B and pop beats.

Land of the Rising Sound | A Roland Retrospective

"Land of the Rising Sound: A Roland Retrospective.

The story of Roland is one of the most expansive and influential in the world of music technology. This feature length documentary sets out to tell it through their iconic inventions.

General Thanks:

First of all, a huge and heartfelt thank you to some anonymous synth experts who not only leant me a jaw dropping array of rare equipment, but who also gave up time from their busy schedules to show me how to use it and who even helped record it on location. I owe you a debt of gratitude, but the entire community at large does too. Thank you!

I also need to thank Gordon Reid for answering my tedious questions and for helping with the explanations of some trickier technical aspects. Furthermore, both Gordon and Sound on Sound need crediting for having already gone the whole 9-yards on the subject: https://www.soundonsound.com/music-bu..."

Korg Volca Modular - First Patch [odd, unusual rhythm]

"Like the title says, i got a Volca Modular yesterday and this is what i came up with after 15 minutes or so of playing around. Audio recorded directly into Ableton Live, no other effects beside the built in "Space" effect on the Volca, and tempo controlled by Ableton (thru a Volca FM sync output)"

"There are four boards inside a prophet 5. Two control boards that have all the pots and switches. one processor board. and one oscillator board. that is it. It is not a complicated machine full of boards like the Voyetra 8.

I think it would be safe to say there are not many of these around. ALL SSM CHIPS ARE GONE. One day someone will remake the SSM like they did with the CEM chips."

According to Wikipedia, the Prophet-5 Rev 1 & 2 used the following SSM chips:

11x SSM2030 VCO
5x SSM2040 VCF
10x SSM2050 EG
21x SSM2020 VCA

Currently Sound Semiconductor is reproducing new versions of SSM chips, but not any of the above.

"Little controller that does everything the keyboard edition of the Hartmann Neuron does, except surround sound.
Built like a tank, this little thing is heavy and made of brushed steel, will last a lifetime.
Ultra rare item, more convenient than spending $5000 on the keyboard edition.
Mint condition, including original box, manual, 2 CDs, USB cable, and everything pictured"

"A rare early analogue Musicaid Clap Trap in good cosmetic condition and very good working order.

I recently had this serviced by Synth Restore in Bedford so it’s ready for studio use or live!

There is minor wear and tear but overall it's in good condition. One knob is missing its white cap.

There are very few analogue Clap Traps in existence. Famously-used (and abused) by Throbbing Gristle and The Human League among others...

Sonically it offers a wide range - from huge oceanic crashing waves of noise to rhythmically-challenged helium finger pops (thanks, Ensemble control) - there's also occasional near-realistic electronic claps in in amongst the myriad options. This is a very early unit and is pretty wild compared to the later ones - some ear-piercing resonance at higher settings make this a contender for serious techno-abuse."
