GOD's BOX Humpback // Multimode Eurorack filter with BAGS of character!

Published on Oct 18, 2019 DivKidVideo

"Here we have a newly re-panelled version of the Humpback filter from GOD's BOX. This is an 8HP SEM style multimode filter with a 2 pole response across the individual low, band and high pass + notch outputs. The input level can drive the filter for that lovely harmonic 'burn' and the two CV inputs affect the cut off with attenuators. It responds well to audio rate modulation for YOI bass, glottal overtones and odd pinged hits. The resonance is severely "hot rodded" beyond the normal SEM inspired filters giving a wide range of soft and warm bass to all out chaotic screams. I stumbled upon a weird way to create distance concrete car park reverb trails in your kick drums too. So skip around below and if you have any clue what's happening with that odd reverb I managed to create - let me know.

4ms SWN Custom Wavetables Demo

Published on Oct 18, 2019 UncertainMusicCorps

"A demo run through of some custom wavetables on the SWN. The wavetables have been designed specifically for drone use. Mostly the range of their spectral content is intentionally limited. Aiming for subtlety here (with one obvious exception). All of them were made using the module itself. No editing software involved. They were sourced by live sampling other synths and some orchestral recordings.

SWN is set up for a simple drone, with channels A & B dropped an octave and detuned against each other. The other channels also have some detuning applied. Internal LFOs are used to modulate the WT Depth and Latitude parameters throughout. Longitude and Sphere are modulated manually.

First run through is flat - all channels to 100% no LFO modulation of the VCAs. Then going back down the same wavetables with LFOs on and some chordal spread applied
Everything recorded dry, without EQ, direct to camera apart from the final 2 mins when some reverb is applied just for comparison."

Friday Fun -Reface Synth Jam From Yamaha HQ

Published on Oct 18, 2019 sonicstate

"Mixing it up a bit here, we visited the Yamaha headquarters in Hamamastu, Japan a few weeks back for their 45 Years of synth making event. While we were there, we shot a Friday Fun synth jam featuring a couple of the Reface instruments.

Nick grabbed a Reface CS and a Reface CP for this one, all set up in their amazing control room.

Plenty of FX on the CP for some dreamy soundscapes."

Klavis Quadigy as an expressive ADSR

Published on Oct 18, 2019 Martin Doudoroff

"An exhaustive exploration of the ADSR features and behavior of Klavis Quadigy Quad Programmable Envelope Generator for Eurorack modular synthesizers.

Addenda:
• I didn’t realize until after the video was done that the PUNCH parameter is considered part of ATTACK for the purposes of the FULL ATTACK mode; so, with FULL ATTACK turned on, you’ll get at minimum the full attack and punch of the envelope; good to know
• I should have clarified that the time value of the HOLD parameter is relative to gate/trigger on, not relative to the end of DECAY
• I should have clarified that the HOLD parameter can be used in conjunction with gates as well as with triggers; with gates, the HOLD parameter effectively sets the minimum duration of the envelope (not including RELEASE)"

Klavis Quadigy: Minimoog-style retriggering behavior

Published on Feb 4, 2020 Martin Doudoroff

"Addendum demonstrating how the Klavis Quadigy implements a retriggering behavior reminiscent of the MInimoog."

via Klavis

"The Quadigy is a complex envelope generator focused on live play. The goal is to allow the user setting up rich, interactive and dynamically evolving envelopes without the risk of breaking up a subtle and intricate patch once on stage. This is achieved by offering two main modes, one where full control is available and a Live mode where only the settings that are sensible using on stage are accessible.

Quad 7-stage envelopes
Pre-delay
Hold
Attack
Punch
Decay
Sustain
Release
Continuous curve shape setting
Inversion
Independent output level
Cycle capability with auto fit-to-clock
Elastic time stretching
5 internal clocks with tap tempo
External clock control
Multiply/divide and offset
Individual cycle ext. control
32 presets with naming
External preset control via CV/Trig
Simultaneous 156-point CV matrix
Morphing on presets and CV Matrix
Multi-editing for polyphonic uses
Live mode for easier/safer control
Graphical display
Real-time envelope stages LED indication
Current state retained over power cycle
Easy firmware update via an audio file
Skiff-friendly and compact module

Yamaha QX7 - When Sequencing Was New and Exciting

Published on Oct 18, 2019 Espen Kraft

"Yamaha QX7 digital sequencer from 1985 was the second MIDI sequencer released by Yamaha. The flagship QX1 was out of reach for most people so they released a 2-track "budget" sequencer for those not super rich.

You recorded everything on track 1 and bounced that down to track 2 as you went along. All separete MIDI channels were kept through the bouncing so you could build big multi-timbral arrangements if you wanted. Except for a dedicaded "copy" function and note editing, the QX7 had it all and it worked great for most things. The QX21 came a little later and it's basically the same sequencer for a lower price."
