Getting to know the Roland MC-707 (jam and thoughts)

Published on Oct 22, 2019 Jay Hosking

"A live, semi-improvised performance, all on hardware, and inspired by the feature set and sounds of the Roland MC-707. Overall, I find it to have great synth sounds and some fun performance features (knobs for filter and assignable parameters, master-level effects including DJFX from SP-404, and greatly expanded scatter effects) but also to have some odd design choices (not frontloading the parameters you want, distinctly unmusical scatter presets, thousands of pointless and bad synth presets) and some unfortunate drawbacks (voice stealing, most notably). Overall, a super fun all-in-one groovebox, but I'm still pining for Novation to make a proper successor to the Circuit.

Roland MC-707 — six synth tracks (noisy pad, arp, lead, bass, 2x clean pads), two drum tracks (regular and filtered), sequencing, and effects

Sequences written over the last couple weeks, performed and uploaded as is, with only a little compression/limiting on the master.

PM Foundations 6080 VCF Demo

Published on Oct 22, 2019 Randy Piscione

"This is a demo of a new Eurorack voltage controlled filter (VCF) from PM Foundations called the '6080 VCF.' It is based on their 2Q12 VCF, and is available as a panel and PCB combination. You can find it here:

http://www.tindie.com/products/pmfoun..."

"Compact 6HP VCF for Eurorack Modular synthesizers

This is a state variable filter using the same core as our 2Q12 filter but substituting multiple unattenuated F and Q CV inputs with some on board attenutaors. Like the 2Q12, this filter has a nice fat sounding low pass output. The two pole filter has simultaneous -12dB per octave roll-off for high pass and low pass and a -12 db wide (-6dB either side) bandpass output. It has voltage control of cutoff frequency (F) and voltage control of resonance (Q). F and Q are adjustable with panel controls and from external sources using two F CV inputs and a Q CV input. One F CV and the Q CV have attenuators."

Cool pic of the 4012 V.C. Filter.

"For yourconsideration is an ARP 2600P (Version 4.0) analog Synthesizer (nokeyboard) for restoration. Judging by the writing on the inside ofthe cabinet near the spring reverb unit are the markings 4P. I haveevery reason to believe that this is the original cabinet which datesthe manufacturing year to be 1974. During this time ARP was using the4012 Low Pass Ladder Filter which was essentially a copy of the Moogdesign. This led to a patent dispute forcing ARP to change their LPFdesign for use in later models. Back in the early 1980's I designedand built my own analog synths and had an absolute blast using them. Then interests shifted and I moved on to other hobbies. Several yearsago I got the “bug” to get back into analog synths and I acquiredthis 2600 with the intention of restoring it to it's full beautyafter I retired. During that time I found Synthesizers.com and builta beautiful modular synth I know now I'll never part with. I've beenretired almost 2 ½ years and now that I have my “dream”modular synth I have no motivation to restore the 2600. I would loveto see this instrument go to someone who will bring this classic backto it's full potential. I never powered up the synthesizer since Ihad it so I don't know it's current electrical condition. With thatbeing said the synth should be restored by someone who is experiencedin this type of vintage equipment..."
