Expressive E & Haken Audio's Osmose Arrives

Published on Nov 20, 2019 Expressive E

The new controller with EaganMatrix sound engine from Haken Audio and Expressive E first announced here has arrived.

"Osmose embeds Haken Audio’s unique EaganMatrix sound engine: From virtual analog to FM synthesis, physical modeling and everything in between, never has a synth engine provided so much potential for expressive control. Explore an infinite landscape of incredible acoustic and electronic sounds.

Unlock the true potential of your favourite hardware and software synthesizers when you combine them with the amazing expressive capacity of Osmose. Even if your synthesizer does not respond to polyphonic aftertouch or MPE, Osmose can still control it.

Piano Mode
Osmose is perfectly playable as a classic keyboard controller, sending simple velocity messages.

Poly Aftertouch and Global Pitch Bend
Control your synth with Osmose’s Initial Pressure dimension and with polyphonic aftertouch. Every key can also control the global pitch bend of your synth.

Multichannel, MPE, MPE+
Osmose is fully compatible with the major MIDI protocol addition for polyphonic expression. Use MPE+ for the most advanced and accurate response.

Standalone Configuration
Your MIDI configuration can be set up directly from the in-built screen, without the need to connect to a computer."

"Osmose is one of the most expressive synthesizers ever created. It is a complete stand-alone polyphonic synthesizer featuring our patented A.K.A. © mechanism, where the keybed responds polyphonically to pressure, aftertouch and note bend. It features a deep modular sound design engine, containing hundreds of incredible sounds ready to explore right out of the box, and can also be used as an advanced controller for hardware and software synthesizers..."

ECHOZ, ZVERB, Z5000 Tiptop Audio Multi Effects Modules

Published on Nov 20, 2019 Tiptop .Audio

"ZVERB, ECHOZ and the Z5000 are powerful stereo DSP effects modules in a compact 8HP panel. Although only 8HP in size, all controls are immediately available with clear labeling, making them quick, comfortable and easy to use. Each button accesses a bank of different effects types for up to 24 effects per module.

These effects are a blend of newly developed programs and ones carefully selected from Tiptop’s library of hundreds of effects created over 10 years for the classic Z-DSP processor module. While the effects algorithms play a major role in making these modules sound impressive, an internal analog clock circuitry drives the DSP chip adds to the lush and warm audio processing. With ZVERB, ECHOZ and the Z5000, Tiptop Audio effects have never been so accessible."

Note, this is the first post to feature the ZVERB.

"ZVERB is a collection of all new reverb algorithms developed by Tiptop ranging from typical reverbs to more complex effects that combine delay and pitch shifting with reverb. The effects are grouped by decades based on either the era an algorithm was introduced or the time when the effect was most popular. This variety of reverbs covers small to epic size spaces with the addition of shimmering, feedback tunneled pitch shifting, tape delay drivers, gated reverbs and a lot more. Analog clocking of the DSP chip and CV over the parameters enables even more experimentation. This is a collection inspired by the best from the past right at your fingertips."

The ZVERB is also available in black.

Nervy jam with Moog Matriarch, Arturia DrumBrute Impact, Elektron Octatrack MkII, Eventide Space

Published on Nov 20, 2019 Jay Hosking

"A live, semi-improvised performance, all on hardware, and inspired by some crevice of my brain that stores all the weird dark 80s music of my youth. I set up my new Matriarch just to ensure it was in ship-shape, and ended up getting lost in this weird twisty sequence. The DrumBrute Impact proved the perfect complement to the bass line, and the Octatrack handled quadruple duties as drum processor, ambience, melody, and master-level compressor. All in all, a superb setup that was super friendly to performance.

Moog Matriarch + Eventide Space — Bass monster
Arturia DrumBrute Impact — Drums
Elektron Octatrack MkII — Audio processing (four inputs from the DrumBrute Impact), track effects, samples, melody, master-level compression

Written and performed within a 4-hour period, and uploaded as is, with only a little compression/limiting on the master.

Patterning 2 - Loop Pages

Published on Nov 19, 2019 Olympia Noise Co.

"Loop Pages is a new feature in PATTERNING 2 version 2.2

Loop Pages allow you to break longer loops into multiple pages for editing. If you’ve ever tried working on a loop that was 64 steps long and thought “my fingers are too big for this, and my eyes are too small” then this feature is for you. By default, loops are broken into pages of 16 steps, but can be adjusted individually or across an entire song. In addition to making editing easier, this new feature has allowed us to increase the maximum loop length to 512 steps, up from 64.
