the multiwave digital oscillator from emw has 40 main oscillator waveforms and 8 sub-oscillator waveforms. it uses a multi-algorithm structure to produce dynamic waveforms (as seen via the oscilloscope). synthesis methods available are: wavetable modulation, fm, wave distortion, formant shifting, timbre stretching and windowed sync. the sound palette on tap is staggering.

this video shows each waveform and how they respond to the wavefolder knob. part II will feature musical examples."

The Prophet 600 is sometimes referred to as the "little brother" of the Prophet 5. Don't let that description allow you to underestimate the Prophet 600. It's a beautiful sounding vintage synth. The pads and brass patches sound incredible. The filter is syrupy and warm. I love the Prophet 600 and I think you will too. It's often referred to as one of the best under the radar synth deals on the market. This pack is very straightforward in its sound palate. I wanted to make serviceable musical sounds for my first go at this synth, and follow it up with a more experimental modulation heavy pack in the future. This Megapack will set you up to start making music right away."

Zoom MS-70CDR, EHX 720, Ambient Toy Piano Jam

"So... My wife gave me a toy piano for Christmas. The kind with cute animals on.

My second thought was that it must be possible to create some kind of listen-worthy music with this.

The piano sound is sample-based, with three different samples spaced over a two octave keyboard. For some reason, the sample is looped for the last half of the sound duration, and the loop length is slightly off, so the second half of the sound is slightly detuned. The keyboard itself is monophonic, only one key press is detected at a time. But a sample will keep playing to the end, even when a new key is pressed, so it's possible to "strum" a chord, sort of. Closer inspection also revealed that this marvelous instrument has a built-in sequencer.

It's battery powered with one speaker, but no line out. So I did a small mod and mounted a volume control, a minijack output, and an on-off switch for the built-in speaker.

I decided to go for the ambient genre, and to get some help from three Zoom MS-70CDR effect pedals, and a Electro Harmonix 720 looper.

The internal sequencer is used in the second half of the jam, and I throw in some subtle animal noises for good measure.

"Synthesis types are abundant. FM, Super Wave, Speech, Commodore 64, drum samples and more are all inside this unique device. Sequencing is super intuitive and easy. Hold a step button and press a note, it’s that simple.

Bought new pots and knobs from Elektron but never installed them. I don’t have a technician shop in my town. These knobs and pots are the upgraded versions that are used in the Octotrack and similar series. I tried to take a knob off and the plastic pot broke with it. Loose knob still functions as good as the others. You cannot tell the pot is broken loose once it is put back in its hole."

Side note: Roland changed the orientation of the MC card slot on some of their synths. Check WaveReX for orientation. Although the site implies the cartridge doesn't work on certain gear, I verified with them that it's just the orientation that won't work so to speak. The cart will still work, it will just be facing the opposite direction making it more difficult to see the display.
