"Custom build by Geoff Waterstone

It’s not very often these will come up for sale, more so because only 6 were in existence.

If you’re looking at this advert you may know of Orgon Systems cult following most notably for its Enigiser filter commented and admired by many a forum.

In the time I have had it its been well looked after and mid 2019 I had both the modulars serviced by Kent Spong and this without schematics, as they do not exist!

This could be a once in a lifetime purchase and if you’re a modular lover or collector could be the only time you will see one of these. I have had several requests in the past for pictures of the boards and especially the filter module for clone duplication which I have respectfully declined. There’s a charm and history surrounding the build of this machine which I have chosen to respect given these were not supplied with any manuals or schematics by its creator.

Below are the modules on the unit, which also run on 220v.

Orpho OUROBOROS | Vacuum Tube VCO Eurorack Module

Published on Feb 2, 2020 HOX808

"In the OUROBOROS, the ECF 80 triode pentode is used in duplicate. It was originally intended as a TV and radio tube, but was also used in power amplifiers. Now we have revived them for the Eurorack. Even if a tube oscillator consumes a lot of electricity and its habit is always somewhat extravagant, it is worth starting up. Unique sounds are available for noises research.

Due to the 'curved' characteristics of the tube oscillator, the module does not have an exactly defined control characteristic (e.g. V / octave). The inevitable tolerances of the tube oscillator will also cause each module to sound a little different.

Connections:
2 x CV input for frequency control with attenuator.
IN - signal input / sync with attenuator.
Out - signal output. Scope frequency range high / low
3U high, 12HP wide, 30mm deep. Caution! Outstanding module! 42mm from front panel.

Power consumption: 12V | 400mA! 800mA during the warm-up phase (approx. 30 seconds).

"I traded a delay pedal for this Landscape Stereo Field device... I'm not sure about it yet. My apologies as I test it out for a while. Unfortunately I've stolen the drums from another one of my tracks to do this one. Oh well.

Oberheim OBXa RAW, no FX

Published on Feb 1, 2020 synthlegends

"Some of my presets and tweaking of the OBXa. I recorded it directly in stereo into my audio interface without any FX in the signal chain. So you can hear some stereo panning of the panned voices. Also in the DAW I didn't use any mastering, Plug Ins or equalizers.

The OBXa was introduced 1980, its forerunner was the OBX. Where the OBX had discrete VCO and SEM 12 dB filter design, the OBXa had Curtis chips.

The OBXa is quite limited in sound design, because it has no mixer for the waveforms and oscillators. There is only SAW and Pulse with PMW, but it has two filter types 12 dB and 24 dB. The only LFO can modulate PMW for OSC 1 and 2, VCO 1 and 2 and Filter. It has got also a random mode (SH). You can sync OSC 1 to OSC 2, which makes nice lead sounds. There is also an unison mode and portamento.

A great feature of that time was the split and layer mode. A famous split sound is used in 1984 from Van Halen.

The OBXa has not very quick envelopes, but is a fantastic synth for fat strings and pad sounds. PMW modulation by LFO independently for the Oscillators is a dream.

In this video I tried to demonstrate these capabilities for long evolving sounds with sweeping filters and evolving PMW as well.

Thanks for watching."
