ROLAND SH 09, Repairing scratchy sliders, dodgy keyboard and noise level mod

Mindburner

Update: video is back with a new title.

A peak inside the Roland SH-09.

"I always wanted one of the old Roland monosynths from the late 1970's and early 80's. This synth came up for auction on eBay.
Allegedly Andy Weatheralls, I open it up and see if I can repair the pots and odd keyboard issues"

Kebu - Roland JUPITER-Xm demo (live at Abbey Road Studios)

Kebu

"In August 2019 I was invited to perform at Roland's launch event at Abbey Road Studios in London, with the then top-secret JUPITER-Xm. So I was borrowed a pre-production unit and was planning to use it as part of a keyboard rig setup. Having tested it for a few days, I realized that I could do a whole tune using only one the JUPITER-Xm. So I composed a new tune (still unnamed) that I performed live at Abbey Road Studio 2 on the launch event.

The tune uses two scenes, with the main part of the tune being based around a factory preset by Gattobus that I modified. All the sounds are generated in realtime by the synth's I-Arpeggiator based on my playing. There are no backing tracks or pre-made sequences. I use an iPad running MIDI Designer for controlling some parameters that were not accessible from the front panel of the synth in the beta version of the firmware. The iPad was connected using the built-in Bluetooth of the JUPITER-Xm.

Many thanks to Roland for this great opportunity and for providing the video!"

"This is how you can creatively make a bass line from the snare drum roll with lowered noise decay.
P.S: GC is on the pipeline of coding to get fully working module."

Patch Notes: Emiliano Melis

FACTmagazine

"Emiliano Melis is a sound designer and composer based in NYC who combines analog and digital instruments to create a rich sound built with layers of melodies and rhythms.

On this episode of Patch Notes, Melis composes an evolving ambient track using a long stretched tape, plugged into a Strymon DECO saturator unit running a background texture. On top, he uses an Elektron Digitakt sampler and TASCAM Porta-05 four-track recorder to play tracks, patterns and sounds. This style of electronic composition is exploired on his new album, Tape and Polaroids, which is released on September 18 via Mother West.
