Roland JX3P versus System 8 (JX3P Plug out)

video by MIDERA

"I wasn’t going to share this comparison... but I guess I put the work in so I might as well. I don’t think my comparison is great at all. In fact, I think it’s terrible. But if you have a JX3P and you’re thinking “I want to get a System 8 to replace it,” maybe this video will help? But probably not. Honestly, the Jupiter 8 plug out is WAY closer in tone to the JX3P. The problem though is that the JP doesn’t do metal sync (maybe there’s a way to get it?).

I went through a bunch of settings, trying to match up the sounds. I was mostly frustrated by this process - so if you're really interested in watching, cool, but otherwise - I wouldn't blame you for wanting to skip the pedantry and poor implementation of a comparison. I got confused many times trying to get them to sound the same. Bottom line: They don't really sound the same at all, the JX3P is much brighter and punchier. I did slightly tweak the internal filters a few years ago, that could explain why? But I had to drop the cutoff by like 20% to get them to sound the same.

Maybe my JX3P is more like a Jupiter hahahaha. Or maybe I just suck at making comparison videos."

Sequential Pro 3 Synth - Bass Demo

video by Creative Spiral

"I like big bass, and I cannot lie... The Sequential Pro 3 delivers a wide variety of bass tones, with the three great sounding VCF filters. It features a Moog Transistor Ladder style filter, an Oberheim SEM 2-Pole style state variable filter, and the Prophet OTA 4-Pole filter. The Pro 3 also features a wide variety of gain staging options which allow you to go anywhere from clean sub bass tone, up to gnarly overdriven or distorted tones.

I've designed about 60 bass patches over the past nine months. This video shows about 30 of them... with a few crossover lead tones mixed in that have substantial low end.

If you're interested in getting these patches, I have some sound sets available for the Pro 3 on Sellfy: https://sellfy.com/sounddesign/sequen...

I also have some Free Patches available for download on my PresetPatch profile: https://www.presetpatch.com/synth/seq..."

Note, I'm creating a new Synth Effects label for these moving forward. I used to just bucket them under Soft Synths and used the "New Synth Effects" label for new effects. That said you can find older posts featuring synth effets by clicking on the New Synth Effects label below.
