Roland JD-800 Model Expansion on JUPITER-Xm - Quick Review in Description

video by Robert Saint John

"Roland #JD800 on #JUPITERxm - Quick performance, all sounds live on the Xm and from the new JD-800 Model Expansion installed on it (standard Xm drum track).

I had my doubts, but the JD-800 Model Expansion is very worthy of the JUPITER-X/Xm. It may not have analog roots, but it does have character and presence. I didn't expect it to map well to the JUPITER-X (let alone the Xm) controls, but Roland did an outstanding job here. After a few hours, it's quite smooth, especially with our friends 'Shift' and 'Function.'

Most important, I think it really brings an additional class of Tones to the X/Xm that were not there. There's a crisp-almost-crunchy feel to many of the waveforms that are undoubtedly digital but still really useful. And the new multi MFX effects? *chef's kiss* There are some gems in there that will take some time to explore, and it will be great to use them with other Models as well.

Five stars, highly recommended."

"Oberheim Matrix 1000
Elektron Monomachine
Moog Matriarch
Korg Electribe EMX
Eventide Blackhole VST

Today I talked to a friend I hadn't talked to in almost 30 years. All that time, just seemingly gone. Weird to come across someone you knew when you were 10 years old. Completely different people now. Parts of your life shattered, others built up. Condensing my life story into a few minutes just reminds me how quickly it goes. We all know that - it goes and it goes and it's gone.

What about this track? Well, this track started when I decided I was going to sell my Matrix 1000. I made a mistake though. I plugged it in. That's the first sound you hear. Now, this is particularly a weird patch, because only this one voice chip sounds this way. All 5 of the others don't. I'm guessing it was a replaced chip at one point. I used the Matrix in mono mode - which is a setting within the MIDI menu. I thought I could replicate this patch in my Matriarch (nope) or my Prophet 10 (nope). Something super haunted about it. I think that's the best way to describe the Matrix.

It's haunted."

TB-303 Into Beads | Acid Eurorack Modular Synthesizer | Happy 303 Day!

"In celebration of 303 Day I did a little experimenting running the TB-303 into Mutable Instruments Beads.

Sending a clock signal to the Seed input and a clocked sine wave LFO to the Size input on Beads.

Mixed through an Endorphin.es Cockpit 2 using the side chain ducking.

I’m using the Polyend Preset as a simple yet effective way to mute and unmute the kick drum. It is controlling a switch on the WMD SL3KT that has a gate signal passing through it being sent to the kick drum on the Endorphin.es Queen of Pentacles.

"This gigantic system was custom-built for a synth aficionado here in Los Angeles. This is one of the largest analog modular synths in existence, with over 140 modules. It truly is unmatched in potential and sound creation power. In addition to the usual suspects you would find in a system like this, this one has several sequencers, MIDI to CV converters, a vocoder, lag processors, analog delays, reverbs, and a panoply of esoteric and obscure processing that has never been offered before, for the master synthesist. A complete list of modules will be listed shortly. The last few pics are with the cool LED strips turned on."

"Very clean. Serial number 1301. All pins are present. Everything works as it should . Serigraphs a bit worn around patch matrix on the left column but still clearly readable . Otherwise cosmetically near mint (see pics) . Wood parts are also great with only a few tiny marks (note a blonde vein in the wood on the left cheek, that was present since the first day). Original in every part except some worn pots changed for Bournes hi quality models and some electrolytic capacitors changed for Phillips long life in the main A board, for better future reliability, see detailed pics (note that the stock cheap japanese reverb tank was once replaced in the early 80's with Hammond better quality and that the original tank is available). Except mentioned nothing has been modified or repaired on this one. Equiped for the ks and the dk keyboards. Original simili leather cover, KS cord and power cord not pictured will be joined with a copy of the original owner manual. The KS keyboard has been sold."

"Excellent condition Ensoniq Fizmo synthesizer with the power regulator fix. All Ensoniq Fizmos were known to have this design issue, which could lead to its death. Mine had the correct regulator installed in factory, so no worries for you to get the fix done by a tech."
