Richard H Kirk: A tribute to his music and legacy

video upload by CatSynth TV

"We pay tribute to the pioneering electronic musician Richard H Kirk, passed away on September 21, 2021. He was a member of the group Cabaret Voltaire, whose mix of experimental electronics and dada sensibilities was very influential in the 1970s, and work in the 1980s combining electronics and pop elements influenced industrial music. Kirk continued to record and perform as a solo artist from the 1990s onward. He reformed Cabaret Voltaire as a solo project in 2009.

We send our thoughts to his family, friends, and collaborators."

The Tangram Sequence

video upload by boxoftextures

"Tangram, from Tangerine Dream. The sequence that starts it off has been in my head for over 40 years, and I was always a little annoyed they didn't let it run longer before they stepped on the end of it with the start of the bass line LOL. But thanks to modern technology I've now been able to fix that oversight and can press Play and let it burble along for hours and hours with none of those pesky interruptions. As it was meant to be heard. Sort of. Well, not really I guess.

Not much to it in a sense—a relatively simple synth voice, four sequencers, a voltage controlled switch, and a clock and clock divider. But in another sense it's a pretty involved patch. Which was a ton of fun to put together.

Todd Barton Transitions series

"To wrap up this series I thought I'd share my score to Butoh for Easels which I composed 7 years ago. The score is a series of performance notes for specific transitions. It is a study in slowly evolving transitions. So rather than me talk and demonstrate I will be leaving links to the score and the video of the premiere performance for you to study at your leisure. Enjoy! And thanks so much for coming along with the this ride of transitions! Btw, it turns out I continued this series after this…stay tuned!

Note technically a synth as it is electro-mechanical. Posting it more for historical purposes. Here's the description from the listing "This is a rare Hohner Cembalet CF electro-mechanical piano built around 1963 - 1966. Rather a harpsichord than a piano since it has no dynamic touch and reeds are plucked. Unit for sale has been serviced: reeds have been cleaned from corrosion, tuned and action has been set to ensure notes volumes are as consistant as possible through the whole keyboard. Due to the reed and plectrum system there may still be some slighjt difference in volume, sound or pitch, but overall it plays and sound very well."
