"Soundplant 26.1 is a self-contained digital audio performance program that turns your computer keyboard into a fully customizable sample-triggering device. It allows the assignment of sound files of unlimited size to virtually any keyboard keys, with no external devices needed and no MIDI involved. It can be used as a drum pad, to add a live track to an already made song, to mix together tracks in realtime, to create music or loops from scratch, to quickly sketch sound designs, to give new life to old sounds, or as a performance, presentation, or installation tool. Because it is not a synthesizer and instead uses your own digital samples (it's a 'software sampler'), Soundplant is a virtually limitless electronic instrument. A simple graphic interface provides for drag-and-drop, point-and-click configuration of each key, including several options which control the way each sound is triggered, along with pitch, offsets, looping, volume, and panning. Sounds can be easily batch assigned across multiple keys at varying pitches and offsets, and keyboard configurations can be saved and loaded."

ReplyDeletea very similar program has been available for years from Bludgeonsoft, which used to be ORISoft.it's called "back2basics" and was originally developed by the band "operation re-information" who couldn't find any software to suit their live performance needs. it's available for PC and Mac at:

Trackers have been around for a long time, how does this program differ?
ReplyDeletebecause it's not a tracker?!
ReplyDeleteholy shit - i didnt know this was still around!
ReplyDeletethis program has been out there for at least a decade now... looks like theyve really souped it up
i had no idea it was still being developed on ... i used to have alot of fun playing with this
and yeh, this is not anything like a tracker - in fact thats quite a silly statement... as in "hahahah!"
Holy cow. I haven't had this much fun with software in a long time. And my 3 year-old loves it, too! Expect his first 12" to be released in about three weeks at this rate.
ReplyDeletejust make sure you dont clamp down and grasp that limelight away... children might live longer than their parents, you know
ReplyDeletesome of them may even take care of you once you get senile and start wearing diapers again
Thanks for the link. This is simple yet awesome software. I have a spare keyboard (with missing keys) lying around and I'm thinking of using it's encoder to make a nice custom controller for SoundPlant with it.
