"On first pass, this 4k video of a Northern Waterfowl preserve (Coyote Hills Nature Preserve in San Leandro, to be exact) might come off as being pretty static. However, watch closely and you'll see a fantastic variety of animal life. Duck formations, White Swans, varieties of birds arcing in and out. Dragonflies will also make appearances, as well as other insects. All happening while the sun slowly moves up into the afternoon sky. It's pretty exciting to set up a camera and have it actually record for a solid hour without something affecting it. GoPros are famous for overheating, but I was lucky to get to 60 minutes before it shut down on me.

Villa Galaxia is a special album to me. Written in 2008, and released on Hypnos Binary as a CD, It was one of the few albums that I had funds to master. I somehow found a technician/musician named Jeff Bowron in Oakland, and after a brief email exchange, he invited me over to master the album with him. To keep the price down, we opted for me to actually haul my large CPU tower over and work directly in my files. We ended up really hitting it off that night. He kept remarking about how unusual yet listenable Villa Galaxia was. He was a great guy who had an excellent ear for music. He had at least 5 different sets of speakers, with the final ones being huge rave-sized speakers. I remember him tuning the base levels and hearing the base drum go from very "flabby" to all of a sudden, precision. His final tweaks really changed the dynamics and feel of Villa Galaxia. A year or so ago, I learned that Jeff had passed away in 2018.

"Triquetra is a linear feedback shift register module, with three independent registers that have their own Gate and CV output. The clock for the second and third register are normalled to the first, but can be supplied with their own clocks to get a wide range of versatility from the module. A clock source is required to generate bits. The toggle switch will change between Looped and Free Run mode.

Each register has an attenuator for the CV output.

The Gate mode can be switched from a 50% clock cycle when the last bit is high, to a high output as long as the last bit is high. This gives the result of switching between either a “Trigger” style or “Leggato” style Gate. The Gate mode can be switched at any time by pressing all three buttons at the same time.

Each button corresponds to the three registers, and will cycle through the bit generating algorithms (seven in total). The LED will cycle through different colors corresponding to the following:

RED = LFSR1

GREEN= LFSR2

RED/GREEN= Small Number Modulus

BLUE= Fibonacci Sequence

RED/BLUE= Prime Number Sequence

GREEN/BLUE= Large Number Modulus

RED/GREEN/BLUE= Otter Mods Cryptograph"

Behringer 2-XM Four Voice Poly Action Using CV.OCD [Demo 01]

Today I'm employing a Sixty Four Pixels CV.OCD to distribute CV/gate amongst two Behringer 2-XM synths for proper Four Voice allocation. As of today the 2-XM firmware on its own does not support individual voice allocation this way. And THIS is very much what I signed up for: stereo panning each voice however I want, pulling out notes of a sequence/chord using filter and envelope controls per voice, and slight variations in the voicings giving rise to an analog sound that is very much alive. Even when the sequence is just arpeggiating a single note value, the variations suggest movement as you will hear.

All audio recorded direct to iPhone via Roland GO:MIXER Pro-X. No sound effects are applied, some normalization in post processing. Signals were sub-mixed on a Soundcraft EPM6 mixer, no added EQ. Sequencing by Arturia Keystep Pro.

Synthesizer-Wettbewerb, Beitrag "Ambient Jam"

"Ambient Jam with Polyend/Dreadbox Medusa and a few iPad apps.

A total of only 6 tracks, a simple chord progression, but with Probability/Random Notes from the Medusa and a few effects. It's all very chilled out and only using my "desktop setup" in my office. Since I usually only make music with hardware, this is a nice change and a challenge for me.

To visualize the whole thing more appealingly, I used a freely available NASA video in the background, which can be used for non-commercial purposes. The video was created with Adobe Premiere Pro. Everything else in the video, and of course the music, is mine.

I use the Medusa with Probability for melodic to whiny synth sounds, mostly with the wavetable oscillators. During recording, I play around with the filters and oscillators. The Medusa sequencer is synced to AUM by Kymatica.

I also recorded the bass beforehand using the Medusa and its analog oscillators. This is played back via the Koala sampler.

The track begins with a synth pad from Synthscraper/Igor Vasiliev

and two tracks of 'synthetic' water (one via the Koala Sampler, the other via the Spacecraft granular sampler). I tinkered around until I managed to create something reminiscent of flowing water from the noise and other sounds.

Klevgrand's Hillman, a phaser-equipped organ synth, is used to give the track a bit of a retro flair.

To increase the dynamics, Klevgrand's REAMP, a tube amp simulation, is later used.

Reverb from Eventide (BlackHole) was used except on the bass.

The mastering was done with GrandFinale 2, which was already in the signal path during recording."
