Beyond the Noise: Synth and Eurorack Performance

"The initial idea of this track started with just ambient noise created by running the Mutable Instruments 'Plaits' through the Schlappi Engineering 'Interstellar Radio'. This noise was further processed and randomized by running the signal through various filters and effects.

After deciding to add in melodic and percussive content, the Moog 'Mother 32' and Novation 'Bass Station II' (AFX overlay used) were then added with sequencing provided by the Squarp Instruments 'Hermod+'. To process the Bass Station II further, it was sent through the eurorack setup using a couple Noise Engineering modules and the Befaco 'Oneiroi'.

The Novation 'Peak', Sequential 'OB-6 Desktop', and Korg 'Minilogue XD' and 'Arp 2600M' were added next to provide bass, melodic and ambient drone content. Last added was some additional drums/samples provided by the Elektron 'Digitakt II'."

"This piece was created using ‪@MoogSynthesizers‬ SIRIN, ‪@RossumElectroMusic‬ Assimil8or, and Mutable Instruments Plaits.

It is a minimal house track built on an even four-on-the-floor kick, with fine-grained rhythmic details layered on top.

Both the modular system and the SIRIN are triggered via MIDI from Ableton.

On the Moog SIRIN, the bassline is performed while the filter cutoff is continuously adjusted to shape the tone.

The Assimil8or receives MIDI from LOCUTUS to generate rhythmic parts. Some sounds are modulated with CV from a Quad LFO, turning them into click-like textures.

Effects are occasionally applied using CLOUDS. The kick and clave are routed through separate outputs: the clave passes through ‪@ChaseBlissAudio‬ LOST+FOUND, the click sounds through MOOD MKII, and the kick through a Bass Driver DI.

The Plaits module plays harmonic elements, which are also occasionally processed through a CLOUDS clone. The output is routed through the ‪@strymon‬ blueSky to add reverb"

A Recipe For Chaotic Beauty | Modular Classroom | Episode 04

"This series is a bit more advanced than usual, but this does not mean 'difficult', it means 'low level'. I will revisit Rob Hordijk's Benjolin and Blippoo Box again, not to recreate them, but to understand its components a bit more so they can be used elsewhere. We'll build a Twin Peak filter with Blades and Blinds (or any duo filter with a polarizer), a Comparator with Maths - which can make amazing new sounds using any two VCO's, I'll revisit the Rungler with Marbles and finally I've been looking for ways to detect equality between two voltages so we can generate a trigger or gate. I am not aware of any comparator that has an '=' output, but I figured out a way to approximate it with Maths.

I've been using ChatGPT as a research tool and it came up with the Twin Peak recipe after scrutinizing documentation on the web. But it also claimed that using Maths for equality detection would not work, because EOC is documented to be 'end of full cycle'. We already figured out in Episode 01 of this series, that EOC is always ON, and off when a RISE is in progress. This is needed to do quadrature functions, bla bla bla, but the point is that AI can be misinformed. Regardless, AI has reached a point where you can actually discuss patches and ChatGPT knows a LOT of modules, options, techniques and alternatives. So how do I know so much? I don't. It's co-creation.

Even though this episode features a lot of chaos, I tried to find the cool textures that make the Blippoo Box so entertaining, and figure out why the Benjolin is so untameable (may I say annoying?)

Studio Ambient Session with Moog One, Prophet-10, Music Easel : Soundwalk 2025-10-10

"A piece created with ‪@SequentialLLC‬ Prophet-10, ‪@MoogSynthesizers‬ Moog One, ‪@buchlausa‬ Music Easel, and modular synthesizers — an ambient electronica track built from layered sounds recorded while walking around the studio.

The Prophet-10 is connected to a blueSky reverb, played with long release settings while manually opening and closing the filter.

Both the Moog One and ‪@NordKeyboards‬ Nord Lead provide synth pads. The Nord Lead runs through the ‪@gfisys‬ Specular Tempus with a deep reverb.

In the small Intellijel modular case, the ‪@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC‬ Morphagene plays back recorded piano sounds, with additional reverb added via a Clouds clone.

In the 7U Intellijel case seen on the right side of the screen, the Instruō Cs-L is processed through QPAS and Mimeophon for filtering and delay effects.

The Music Easel is connected to a ‪@ChaseBlissAudio‬ MOOD MKII, adding rich reverb. The Easel is played with noticeable portamento while performing on the keyboard."
