The 'CLS 22' model was built from 1982 to 1988 and uses an exclusively analog signal. According to the manufacturer's official product brochure, Dynacord began developing the effect in the 1970s with the aim of imitating the sound of the mechanical rotor cabinet fully electronically and without wear. To do this, the manufacturer splits the input signal into a high-frequency and a low-frequency signal using an electronic crossover. Since the start-up and stop times of the two channels varied in a targeted manner, the rotor sound could be copied electronically. You could choose between fast speed (“Fast”), slow rotor sound (“Slow”) and untouched signal (“Stop”). In addition, the input level of the preamplifier, rotor balance, and output level of the signals could be adjusted between monophonic or stereophonic. On the back there is a power plug, jack sockets, XLR outputs, fine adjustments for the rotor speed and a footswitch input.

In 1989, a revised version of the device was released under the name “CLS 222”. This effect device supposedly now also uses a digital signal for signal processing, in contrast to the pioneer. However, according to the circuit diagrams in the service manuals, both the CLS 22 and the CLS 222 use purely analog circuits, including BBD chips (so-called “bucket chain memory”) for the signal delay. According to the manufacturer, the CLS 222 model could still be used for electric guitars, microphones and PA systems without any problems, although the previous model was designed more for keyboards
British rock musician Eric Clapton used a white “Dynacord CLS 222” from 1989 to 1996 as part of his Soldano/Cornish guitar routing system. The effects device came into the system for the B part of the Cream song Badge. On the original recording, Clapton recorded the part with an original Leslie speaker, but used the Dynacord as a replacement for the performances during the Journeyman World Tour and world tour in 1992.

The guitarist David Gilmour of the rock band Pink Floyd also used a “Dynacord CLS 222” in his guitar and effects device system, which, like Clapton, was also developed by the British electrical engineer Pete Cornish.

The guitarist The Edge of the Irish band U2 also used the “CLS 22” effects device. The French music producer and disc jockey Joakim Bouaziz uses a “Dynacord Leslie simulator CLS 222” in his New York Crowdspacer Studio.

AtoVproject DHO Workshop at SchneidersLaden

video upload by SchneidersLaden

"The workshop by AtoVproject about the DHO – Dual Harmonic Oscillator at SchneidersLaden. AtoVproject introduce their exciting new oscillator and play a performance so you can hear the module in a musical context.

Complex oscillators are renowned for their amazing sonic potential. The DHO uses the power of digital controls to improve accessibility and inspiration. Each analog oscillator generates four octaves of triangle waves and modulates each other using through-zero FM. All of this is channeled through a four-stage diode wavefolder.

For extremely complex modulation there is the power of simplex noise implemented in the DHO. This is an algorithm straight out of the video game industry. One twist of a knob allows you to dynamically modulate 10 parameters. You can explore infinite soundscapes and give life to the whole module with just one CV input. This fantastic noise source can also direct the frequencies of up to 10 internal LFOs, injecting motion and complexity into your sound without cluttering your rack with external modulation sources."

AtoVProject - Dual Harmonic Oscillator (DHO) Sound demo

video upload by NOISEBUG

"We are pleased to present the Dual Harmonic Oscillator (DHO)!

Complex oscillators are renowned for their amazing sonic potential, yet they can be challenging to fully exploit due to the many modulators they require.

The DHO is a true analog sonic powerhouse. We used the power of digital controls to improve accessibility and inspiration. Each analog oscillator generates four octaves of triangle waves and modulates each other using through-zero FM. All of this is channeled through a scorching four-stage diode wavefolder.

But that's not the end! The DHO is under digital command, opening up a universe of possibilities. We've harnessed the power of simplex noise, an algorithm straight out of the video game industry. One twist of a knob allows you to dynamically modulate 10 parameters. You can explore infinite soundscapes and give life to the whole module with just one CV input. This fantastical noise source can also direct the frequencies of up to 10 internal LFOs, injecting motion and complexity into your sound without cluttering your rack with external modulation sources.

Did we mention that it has haptic feedback!? Yes, the DHO vibrates to talk to you and give you information about what’s going on!

We’ve spent the last two years refining our design language, and this is the first product emerging from this journey. Discover the AtoVproject ways and explore new sonic horizons with the DHO!"

A Sonic Playground! // Dual Harmonic Oscillator by AtoVproject - more sounds & music

video upload by DivKid

You can find the first video previously posted here.

"The Dual Harmonic Oscillator from AtoVproject is one hell of a sonic playground for all sorts of synthesis, sound and musical approaches to working with a dual or 'complex' oscillator. When I made the main demo (watch that first, link above) I ended up making so many patches with it that I wanted to put together a second video that revisited the module. So here it is."

Country Life | AtoV #Gaeto, After Later Audio #Atom - #jamuary2024 Day 15

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"It's the dreaded day 15 and we're almost half way on this creative journey where nothing is planned and tomorrow is uncertain. But today turned out a really good day.

I wrote a Teletype script two years ago, that was able to extract gate patterns from any CV source. Higher CV would lead to more percussive events.
But I don't see much people writing code for the modular.

So I was hoping that AtoV Gaeto would do the same, but the implementation is a bit different. It expects a shape between 0 and 1 V which is way less than regular utilities will provide, so you'd need to attenuate the hell out of your CV. It also offers some cool gate logic which can be useful for both trigger patterns as square/pulse waves. I've been a bit disappointed because I was hoping it would work like my script. But it's a cool module on its own. I made a few beats, but then realized I was missing something meloduc. I tried ALA Atom again, which is supposed to be an NI Elements clone, but no. It's an ATOM. And it's a bit different. But in the best way possible. I am just using gates to play it, and manual tweaking to make chords."

The AtoVproject Dual Harmonic Oscillator is a monster!

video upload by Tom Churchill

"This is a rich, complex-sounding patch based around the Dual Harmonic Oscillator from AtoVproject. It’s a big, super-powerful module with two triangle-based VCOs that offer four octaves worth of harmonics, as well as regular sine, saw and pulse outputs via the expander. I’ll be covering it in more detail in a dedicated video soon, but in the meantime check out DivKid’s excellent deep dive if you want to know more about it: [posted here]

In this patch, it produces four melodic layers, with everything driven from a simple 8-step sequence out of the Jasmine & Olive Trees Traffic module switched over to the Water firmware. Joranalogue Filter 8 provides some quadrature LFO modulation to control the levels of the harmonics, and ALM Pamela’s Pro Workout provides clock, trigger patterns and transpose voltages. I’m also using the Nekyia Circuits Obsidian for some extra LFOs, and the Sosumi LPG on two voices - full video coming soon on all the Nekyia stuff, it’s great! Reverb is Valhalla Supermassive (in the box).

A Exciting & Unique take on Dual Complex Oscillators // AtoVproject Dual Harmonic Oscillator (DHO)

video upload by DivKid

The DHO made its first appearance on the site back in 2022 here.

"AtoVproject have come out swinging with a new, exciting and unique take on what you could think of as a 'complex oscillator'. It's an analogue design and signal path under digital control, which allows for a unique built in modulation section alongside an absolute festival of VCAs in the circuit offering LOTS of CV modulation options for harmonic control, TZFM and folding.

Each oscillator has 4 harmonics set an octave apart and each harmonic is its own triangle wave. These can be level (AM) modulated and used for TZFM (through zero FM) and all that goes into a mix section with external input into a wave folder. The wave folder is based on the circuit from the Befaco Chopping Kinky module (which I thought was a nice touch) with a redesigned VCA section.

The built in modulation is based on algorithmic noise which is used in video games to render things like mountain ranges, but there's also 10 LFOs you can use. Either modulation type can modulate any of the 10 destinations with the harmonic controls and FM levels.

Impressive stuff right? I'd love to know what you think ... leave a comment and lets chat about it!

p.s. it's available in the silver and black for the black panel brigade, or science lab chic crew.

Superbooth 2023: AtoVproject - cDVCA - Gaeto

video upload by sonicstate

"We spoke to Marios from AtoVproject at Superbooth 2023, where they showcased their latest Euro rack module, cDVCA. This 6 HP module features a square wave oscillator inside the VCA which tracks volts per octave, and a low pass filter to tame the signal. The drive knob allows for control over the amount of distortion from the internal oscillator or the original signal, resulting in a full voice with the oscillator, filter, and VCA all in one module.

Marios also demonstrated the Gaeto, a clock divider and sequencer available for 80 Euros. The Gaeto has two channels and a knob for determining whether it divides to two or three, allowing for clock divisions, flip flop gate triggers, and quantization of finger beats. The Gaeto also has a pulse output related to the input signal and is available for purchase now. AtoVproject teased a new oscillator in development, with more information to come in their newsletter.

Small Tube VCA/Distortion Modules

video upload by John Schussler

"There seem to be more and more folks making modules with small tubes these days. I have a few of them, and figured I'd do a comparison. These are all 'distortion' modules in one sense or another. Some are VCAs, some are filters, and some are just tube-y grimy-ness.

I've also thrown in an intro to the cDVCA, a new kind of VCA that is also a specialist at distortion. It doesn't have a tube, so it gets a solo spot at the end.

Unique VCA that’s also a wave shaper, overdrive, and filter - With AtoV project cDVCA

video upload by Monotrail Tech Talk

"The brand new AtoV project cDVCA is a module inspired by class D amplification. It can be used as a regular VCA, but the clever design makes it also suitable as oscillator, synth voice, wave shaper, overdrive, distortion, and simple filter. In short, it’s a VCA that’s actually a complex sounds design tool!

In this video I explain how the module is operated. But I mostly focus on a series of patches and audio demos using the cDVCA as synth voice, sound design tool, and audio processor.

"The 16n AtoVproject Rework is aimed at solving a problem very specific to modular synthesis. As a patch is getting more and more complex a forest of cables has grown over your system before you know it. This module allows you to take the control from the modular into a very ergonomic controller that integrates perfectly into a modern studio.

The 16n AtoVproject Rework is a controller sending CV, I2C, MIDI jack, USB MIDI (compatible PC, Mac, iPad etc...), making it the absolute ultimate controller for any of your hardware and software all in one!

Even better this controller can either be used as a Eurorack module or as a standalone unit using the beautiful aluminum enclosure.

In 2019, the Berlin Modular community showed interest in building the 16n Faderbank. As one of the Berlin Modular community organizers, I decided to make a redesign of the 16n faderbank following the suggestions and desires of our members. The 16n AtoVproject Rework is the result.
