Exploring EarthQuaker Devices' Wave Transformer

video upload by Reverb

"This analog oscillator features a unique Transform knob that allows you to morph a simple waveform into a complex mass of audio mutations. Fess gives us an in-depth demonstration of the Wave Transformer's capabilities and explores its potential for creating unique patches.

BAF 2024: EarthQuaker Devices - Wave Transformer

video upload by sonicstate

"At BAF 2024 Sonic State had the opportunity to speak with Karl from EarthquakerDevices about their latest release, The Wave Transformer oscillator. This complex single oscillator is fully analog and features a unique wave shaping circuit called Transform. Unlike traditional wave folders, Transform breaks the waveform apart, applies voltage math, and reassembles it on the output, resulting in an asymmetric crumpled waveform with added harmonics. The Wave Transformer offers seven different outputs and nine inputs, providing plenty of versatility for modulation and sound design.

The Wave Transformer also offers both hard and soft sync options, each providing their own sonic flavours, and by utilizing bipolar signals, users can achieve different sync sounds and even create filtering effects.

The Wave Transformer is available now. Price 199 USD"

"The Wave Transformer is an analog, vintage-voiced, voltage-controlled oscillator with over 8 octaves of accurate pitch tracking. It has 7 simultaneous wave outputs, including a unique Complex output.

The Transform control morphs from a basic waveform through many strange iterations into a complex, gnarled mass of audio mutations at the Complex output. You can yield countless variations on these permutations by combining this novel circuit with Hard Sync, Soft Sync, Linear FM and Exponential FM. Additionally, you can mute the source waveform to use the circuit as a harmonic gate/VCA, rendering The Wave Transformer a voice unto itself. If that is not enough, there is a Shape Insert that allows you to transform external oscillations and modular-level audio sources."

The Wave Transformer // EarthQuaker's Boldest Device Yet ( & it isn't even a pedal)

video upload by Jorb

"I love a lot about this module.

Its a rock solid oscillator, which yes there are a ton of them, but this needs to be if its gonna compete. And the waveshaping from the transform circuit gives it enough of its own character to stand out.

I think its priced competitively, it does all the things other up-market "standard" oscillators do (built-in attenuators for modulation, hard and soft sync, built in sub) and it has so much of its own character.

If there's any downside, its kind of a lot of HP? But not really when you consider the sum of its parts. On all fronts, we got a banger.

Complex Morphing VCO, Subs, FM & more // The Wave Transformer by Earthquaker Devices (Eurorack Demo)
video upload by DivKid

"Well this was a surprise! Earthquaker Devices (makers of fine pedal FX) making a Eurorack oscillator. Yes they made the Afterneath module, but as that was a modular version of a pedal I didn't expect they come guns glazing with a big, bold VCO!

I first saw The Wave Transformer by Earthquaker Devices at Knobcon, where they brought it along for an early look and sat playing with it at the show I knew they were onto something that sounded great. Well now it's released here we are with a demo.

The Wave Transformer is a 20HP Eurorack oscillator, it's analog, with onboard complex, transforming wave shaping, sub generators with unique shapes, FM, sync, LOTS of precise tuning control and options to wave shape external sources, saturate audio and track subs from your other oscillators. I've had lots of fun with this one!"

Special Cranker on synthesizers & drum machines - Earthquaker Devices

video upload by Stazma

"I'll be doing more fx pedals related content this year and I wanted to start by the last pedal I bought, the Special Cranker by @EarthQuakerDevices.

It's quite rare you find demos of overdrive type pedals with synths and drum machine even tho they might sound great on such devices. I'll try to fix that mistake today!"

Afterneath V3 on synth with CV control (no talking)

video upload by Richard DeHove

"There's plenty of videos which show Earthquaker Devices' Afterneath V3 doing all the usual reverb things, so here I thought I'd just show what happens when you apply CV. The expression jack accept 1v/Oct CV, although it doesn't track pitch. Because of that I mostly ignore the Major, Minor, Pentatonic scale modes because they don't really work anyway in terms of tracking pitch. Despite that there's lots of interesting weirdness to explore.

Here I'm running a DB-01 through the pedal. the DB-01 CV out is being mixed with the CV from a synced LFO. I experiment with different LFO shapes, rates, and blends of the LFO and DB-01 pitch CV.

In my first edit of this video I chopped everything up into highlights, but I abandoned all that and went with the unedited noodling instead. I think it's more interesting to see the process of getting from one effect to the next even if that means a few interludes of mush. Hope you find it useful.

ps: This is not a sponsored video, I bought it at full price with my own money.

Avalanche Run V2 with a DB-01 synth (no talking)

video upload by Richard DeHove

"Some random noodlings with the Avalanche Run V2. Bought this because of the knob-per-function controls. It's certainly very easy to operate and gives a big thick sound. The Tone control works beautifully on the delay and the reverb is rich. On the other hand a little more stereo separation would be nice and you do need to be careful on the levels as it will clip fairly easily with a loud pop and crackle. I tried hooking up the DB-01 CV out to the expression in but the results were disappointing. Likewise using an expression pedal didn't seem worth the effort when using it on the desktop since all the controls are exposed anyway. Still, what you're paying for here is a beautifully thick stereo sound and superfast and simple tweaking. What a relief not to worry about menus and secondary functions!
