Repair Report: BOSS DR-55 Dr. Rhythm Foot Switch Restoration

This one is in via supporting member GreyScale aka plantssystem who had the following to say:

Restoring a Classic: BOSS DR-55 Foot Switch Jack Replacement

"The BOSS DR-55 is a staple of early 80s minimal wave and synth-pop, but its plastic jacks are often a point of failure after four decades."

The Issue

The unit arrived with a missing original foot switch jack, rendering remote Start/Stop operations impossible. To ensure a rugged and reliable fix, I decided to upgrade the component rather than searching for a rare vintage plastic replacement.

The Solution: Switchcraft 12A

I opted for a Switchcraft 12A 1/4" Mono Jack (Shorting/Tip-Shunt). This is a classic choice for vintage gear due to its high-quality metal construction and reliability.

* Fit: The Switchcraft 12A fits the DR-55 chassis, though it requires careful grounding to the metal frame/PCB common.

* Wiring: Wired specifically to handle the DR-55's Start/Stop trigger logic.

Results

The repair was a total success. The unit now responds perfectly to a standard momentary foot switch.

* Start: Functional.

* Stop: Functional.

* Reliability: The metal Switchcraft jack provides a much more secure connection than the original plastic housing.

This DR-55 is now back in the studio, ready for another 40 years of 16-step sequences.

Moog Subharmonicon + Boss RE-202 // Beautiful Harmony

video upload by Dexba

"I don't usually play the Subharmonicon, but when I do, I get lost for hours in this delicate balance of over (and under) tones.
The Roland/Boss RE-202, which some people call the most faithful recreation of the RE-201, fills the gaps, in an awesome synthetic glue.
I hope you'll like it! ๐Ÿงก"

BOSS SDE-3 Dual Delay Demo with Synths (no talking)

video upload by Bonedo Synthesizers

"In this video we check out the BOSS SDE-3 Dual Delay — a classic digital delay pedal that’s equally useful for synth rigs as it is for guitars. With two independent delay lines and intuitive controls, it lets you craft everything from tight slapbacks and dotted rhythms to lush, ambient repeats that enhance your synth textures.

We take a look at how its routing options and flexible timing settings can add depth and movement to pads, leads and sequences, making it a great creative tool for sound designers and live performers alike."

Anthony Marinelli Music Synth Studio Revealed | Studio Tour 2025

video upload by Anthony Marinelli Music

"I finally agreed to make a video showing my synthesizer studio. I'm NOT a collector, so you'll see the instruments I've used for over four decades to do my work. It's also my space for composing. In this deep dive studio tour, I walk you through every corner of my space, showing how everything’s connected for performing, recording, and creative flow.

You’ll see icons like the 'Plantasia' Moog Modular IIIc, Synclavier II, Rhodes Chroma with Expander & Enabler, Oberheim Four Voice, Elka Synthex, Roland Jupiter 8, Sequential Circuits Prophet-5, ARP 2600s, Korg MS modular synths, some classic Minimoog — plus a few modern synths I’ve added as I look to the future. Alongside the synths are vintage drum machines, string machines, and rare electric keyboards including a 1973 Fender Rhodes Suitcase and Hohner Clavinet/Pianet Duo.

We'll also explore racks of outboard gear, vocoder units, tape echoes, and a vast array of my custom guitar pedal options, efx pedal boards and studio effects racks that make this room endlessly inspiring. I'll also reveal how my entire studio is designed for instant creativity, featuring 48 channels of synth drivers and stage boxes, so any synth can be patched and recorded on the fly."

Oberheim TEO-5: Tom Sawyer to Techno and DnB Using Its Amazing Filter • TEO-5 Filter Demo #oberheim

video upload by SynthSoniq

"In this Oberheim TEO-5 demo and tutorial, I explore its filter as I walk through how to create the Tom Sawyer patch from Rush’s classic track, I show how I use the arpeggiator and filter for a Techno / Trance riff, and I demo how to use the TEO-5’s Unison “chord mode” to create a DnB pad with a filter sweep.

I think it's good to know how to program a patch like the Tom Sawyer sound, not just because you're trying to play a Rush song, but because it teaches you about filter envelopes, resonance, and the general character of a synth's filter. I like making it on any synth because it gives me a feel for that synth's sound. It's then easy to add some attack to the envelope to turn the patch into a great pad, or decrease the decay to make some cool bass sounds.

Chapters:

0:40 Tom Sawyer
3:03 Techno / Trance
5:55 Drum 'n' Bass

Gear used in this video:

Unlock Amazing Rhythms with Cheap Foot Pedals — 2-Minute How-To

video upload by Saul Stokes

"Enjoy this video? Purchase a $3.00 download of 5 high-quality loops made from this how-to.

https://buymeacoffee.com/saulstokes/e...

Combining multiple mono delays is not something many people do. Yet, it’s an amazing way to create rhythmic structure that you won’t get any other way. Any delay pedals will work. I prefer to use a mono signal chain to keep things from getting too complex. This concept does work in a DAW—just make sure you turn off tempo sync.

1. Create a simple rhythm. In this quick tutorial, I made a very bland white noise hi-hat loop.

2. Using the first delay pedal, slowly move the repeat knob until you find an interesting rhythmic structure. Make sure you keep the level of repeats down so the rhythm doesn’t get too wet.

3. For the second delay pedal, turn the time knob very slowly. As you do this, you’ll hear moments when the two delays start to play off each other, creating something new and exciting. This works great when the first delay is just slightly off-tempo.

4. As an extra, I added a phaser, which adds a beautiful smeared wash to the rhythm. The phaser's cycle actually adds a third sweeping rhythm.

4. Keep tweaking the repeat and time knobs of each delay—you’ll continually find new rhythmic structures. Go slowly, as there are hidden rhythms that will emerge that you might otherwise miss.

4. Why can't you use one stereo delay to achieve the same thing? It's simple because using two delays gives you two clocks, and the timing will never be perfect. The result is something that has a human characteristic rather than being stiff and perfect.

If you're strapped for cash, look for older pedals on Craigslist or eBay. The phaser in this tutorial was actually found at Goodwill. The Line 6 was purchased for $40 on Craigslist, and the Oceans 11 can often be found very inexpensively.
The cheaper the effect, the better!

Dystopian Space Ambient (GR1-Kalimba)

video upload by Christian's Sonic Spaces

"This is a dystopian space ambient, featuring a GR-1 granular synthesizer from Tasty Chips Electronics for soundscapes, generated from my own sound samples. In addition a Kalimba running through a DigiTech Genesis 3 were used for the solo plays, a Stylophone Theremine were used for the radio-like background tweet, the Dimmed Light Devices Radio Module for another radio-noise and the Spitfire Audio LABS for the deep bass

I used for the recording the following effects devices: DigiTech Genesis 3, Gamechanger Audio Motor Pedal, Boss Slicer SL2, Hologram Microcosm, Pigtronix Echolution² Deluxe and a GFI System Specular Reverb². Depending on the recorded track some FX are deactivated.

The signal went through a Presonus StudioLive 16.0.2 into the PC via USB for recording. To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track using iZotope Ozone. The picture in the video I created with Midjourney."

Make Noise 0-Coast + 0-Ctrl // Bamboo Plucks

video upload by Dexba

"I had fun playing, that's it :)
This channel should mostly be about this, and I am glad to upload something like that.
This is my fourth 0-Coast, and until now, I didn't click with it because I never had a 0-Ctrl to pair it with, and I was missing the goodness of the variable gate input, plus I love capacitive keyboards and tuning stuff by ear (like you might have guessed from my other videos), so... here we are.
Plus, this combo is SO CUTE, tiny, portable, it makes me want to eat it like a candy.
I hope you'll enjoy it!"
