Stylophone DS-2 // Misuse is the best use!
video upload by Dexba
"A drone synthesizer, so what? I made a kick drum with it! And used the LFO as a pitch sequencer too!
The truth is, I simply love to challenge the name and intended purpose of an instrument: if they tell me it's for ambient, I'm going techno; if it's the ultimate experimental machine, I'm going to make cheesy pop chords, and so on.
It's liberating, and like a puzzle to solve, that greatly expands my knowledge of the machine in the process: before you can (properly) misuse something, you have to understand its workings really well!
BUT you can only do this if the quality of the instrument provides you with enough latitude, and the DS-2 does that. The oscillators sound good, the filters sound good, the delay sounds great, the reverb is MORE than "more than" enough.
So... the instrument is ready to take you wherever you want to go!
I hope you'll enjoy this video, full demo & review coming next week 🧡"

Ethereal ambient calm | live looping with the Stylosette Keys
video upload by vekoni and Stylophone
"Relax with this soothing, calming ambient track. Live performed simple looping with the almighty Loopy Pro and a bunch of beautiful effects.
Disclaimer: Stylophone sent this product free of charge; I wasn’t paid, and they had no input on the content.
I loved the Stylosette immediately after trying it. It looks like a toy, but the sound is fantastic, and the octave shift and adjustable vibrato makes it more capable than I thought it would be (I didn't even try the built in delay this time, but it also sounds great and can do self-oscillating madness as well).
Most people use the Stylosette through fruits, and other food like sushi and cheese (genius haha), which I might try next time, but I only wanted something simple and conductive for the octave key to play the high-pitched melody after the base loops were layered... so I used a Japanese knife. Mostly because it looks great and sits stable on the table (cutting edge idea...).
Now the usual geeky stuff:
Signal chain:
→ Stylophone Stylosette Keys through a TRS to RCA cable and a stereo to mono adapter
→ IK Multimedia iRig USB
→ iPhone with Loopy Pro as host

Stylophone Live performance | Techno
video upload by Stylophone
"STYLOPHONE LIVE TECHNO PERFORMANCE
A live improvised Techno style performance with The Stylophone BEAT, GEN X-2 & CPM DS-2.
Inspired by the drone and dark vibes of a Techno rave live set, these Stylophone devices provide the sounds reminiscent of that classic electronic music scene.
Recorded into a multi-track digital recorder, this performance features drums on the Techno setting from the Stylophone BEAT as well as a sampled bass note that repeats on loop. The CPM DS-2 adds drone and sweeping effects using both Oscillators to make harmonized tones. The Ultra LFO, resonance and cutoff filters add movement, depth and character to the drone. The Gen X-2 provides the lead on its low octave setting and has its own built-in delay effect to give a large expansive sound lead that plays between octaves.
These tracks have been mixed and master in a audio program and some additional effects like side-chain compression, volume automation, eq, delay, and reverb. All sounds generated in this performance have been made with these Stylophone devices.
Hopefully this performance inspires you to try a similar setup in your home studio or at your next local rave. Have fun!"

The BEST Analog Synth Under $100?
video upload by Scott's Synth Stuff
"Can a real analog synthesizer cost less than $100? In this review, I take a hands-on look at the Stylophone Gen X-2, an affordable portable analog synth with a resonant filter, LFO, delay, sub oscillators, CV/Gate connectivity, and surprisingly powerful sound.
I'll unbox it, explore every feature, hear what it actually sounds like, connect it to my ASM Leviasynth via CV/Gate, and find out whether this tiny synth is just a toy - or a serious instrument that's worth adding to your studio.
If you're looking for an inexpensive synthesizer, a portable analog synth, or a fun hardware synth with real analog sound, you may be surprised by what this little Stylophone can do!"

THE DF-8 & DS-2 RESONANT DRONE
video upload by Stylophone
"THE DF-8 & DS-2 RESONANT DRONE
This month we’re celebrating drone music.
In this patch, we combine the DS-2’s oscillators, filters and LFO with the DF-8’s looping envelopes and stereo filters to create a huge, highly resonant drone. Subtle modulation and moving cutoffs add constant movement, while stereo filtering and delay help build a wide, evolving soundscape.
Turn up the delay and drift off into the drone."
CREATING HOWLING DRONES WITH THE CPM DF-8
video upload by Stylophone
"CREATING HOWLING DRONES WITH THE CPM DF-8
This month we’re celebrating drone music.
In this patch, we turn the CPM DF-8’s filter into an oscillator by feeding its output back into the cutoff. Using high resonance, Sample & Hold modulation and looping envelopes creates evolving, shifting drone textures with plenty of movement.
Add some delay to push the sound even further."

FILTER FM (STYLOPHONE PATCHBOOK 2.0) - CPM DS-2 ANALOG DRONE SYNTH
video upload by Stylophone
"CPM DS-2 ANALOG DRONE SYNTH
The FILTER FM patch works by moving Drone 1’s cutoff around at audio rate.
Start by turning down Drone 1 so we can just hear Drone 2.
Pitch Link is switched on, and the pitch is set to the middle. This means any changes to the pitch in Drone 1 will also be matched in Drone 2.
The output is set to a saw wave, and we’ve got the LFO linked to pitch, with the LFO depth turned up just slightly. This means the pitch will drift around a little bit.
Resonance is turned down and the cutoff is all the way open. This means we just get the raw output from Drone 2. Turn its volume all the way up, but plug in a patch cable — we’ll need this later.
Over on Drone 1, the pitch is set to 9 o’clock. We also have a saw wave selected, but the routing switch for the LFO is set to X-Wave. This stops it from affecting the pitch.
We’ve got the cutoff set to 12 o’clock and the resonance at 3, giving us quite a big resonant peak.
Now, when we plug the output of Drone 2 into the cutoff of Drone 1, the filter is going to get moved around at audio rate.
For a more extreme sound, try turning up the pitch LFO on Drone 2.
Also, add a bit of reverb.
