Today Will Be Better - Live Minimal Ambient w/Gamma Mini Synth & Pocket Master (Omni Preset)

video upload by Interstellar Excavation

"Gamma Mini Synth is great fun, and the last update made it even better. There is now a built in looper, which I used here in place of the pocket master loop recorder, and if you change presets, the looper will change to that preset as well. I didn't do any preset changes here, but thought it was worth noting. I had it set to 4 bars, but it can go longer"

Building a Full TECHNO Track With the RELIQ: First play with description

video upload by Starsky Carr

"I built an entire techno track using the Reliq hybrid control surface — sequencing CV, gates, and MIDI together. This is a quick preview before my full in-depth Reliq review drops, made for anyone who just wants to see what it can actually do in a real track.

In this short hardware jam, the Reliq's Breakout Module handles every CV and gate connection to my Eurorack rack, while its onboard LFOs and envelopes replace modules I'd normally need patched in separately — freeing up rack space while adding an extra oscillator's worth of movement. MIDI runs straight to the Dreadbox Artemis alongside it, all synced from the same sequencer. You'll hear polyrhythmic drum sequencing too — kick and closed hi-hat running full bars, snare on the backbeat at a different rate, and a 4-step open hi-hat loop sitting on the offbeats.

This is a fast, feature-packed look at the Reliq's matrix routing, CV/gate output, MIDI output, LFOs, and envelopes all working together in one musical piece — not a full walkthrough (that's coming soon), just proof of what one box can do.

What's covered:

Reliq Breakout Module: CV + gate patching into Eurorack
Onboard LFOs and envelopes standing in for extra modules
Simultaneous CV and MIDI sequencing (Eurorack + Dreadbox Artemis)
Polyrhythmic step sequencing across multiple tracks
Building a full techno track hardware-only, no DAW"

In Memoriam of Kevin Kelley of The Audio Playground

Amy Kelly, wife of Kevin Kelley, wrote in to let me know of her husband Kevin Kelley's passing in 2024. You might remember Kevin Kelley mentioned directly in numerous posts here on MATRIXSYNTH going all the way back to 2007. Kevin ran the Audio Playground aka keyboardmuseum.org which was created back in 2000. (Note keyboardmuseum.org is no longer active, the link takes you to posts referencing the site).

The Audio Playground was a synth museum in Winter Park, Florida. One of the great things I loved about the site was that Kevin hosted samples of the synths featured, including virtual sound sheets, so you could get an idea of what they sounded like. Back then that was actually quite rare.

Kevin was also an owner of the uber rare Technos Acxel synthesizer. You can see it pictured below as well as in previous posts featuring Kevin.

Included below are some pics of Kevin with his daughters and his cats sent in by his wife Amy.

"He was a wonderful and brilliant man as well as a great dad and husband. His three daughters and I miss him tremendously." - Amy

Amy still has his Technos Acxel and is working on bringing it back to life. I've sent her a few leads, but if anyone out there can help with the following, please feel free to reach out (matrixsynth@gmail.com).

"The system successfully powers on and initializes the Grapher console, but it is currently hanging at the initial splash screen ('Forget Technology, think music'). I suspect the data sectors on the original 3.5" boot floppy have degraded over time. I am looking to write a fresh sector-by-sector image to a healthy 720KB DD disk to isolate the issue.

My hope is that someone out there might have a raw disk image (.img or .hfe format) compatible with this era of the hardware."

No Plan, Just Sound | Live Hardware Jam with Ableton Move × Circuit

video upload by microMarie

"Tonight was something different: no prepared DJ set, no finished tracks — just the Ableton Move, Novation Circuit and a lot of improvisation.

I built loops, switched between both machines and tried to turn spontaneous ideas into a live electronic performance. Not everything was planned, not everything was perfect — but that is exactly what makes a hardware jam exciting.

Expect melodic moments, driving drums, changing grooves and a few chaotic experiments along the way."

Rest in Peace PENELOPE the Synth Kitty

Long time reader Adam Abraham wrote in to let me know his little synth kitty PENELOPE has passed away. You might recognize these pics from prior posts, Odyssey Cat and KORG MS20 with KORG 35 Filter & Synth Cat.

According to Adam, she's been a synthhead by his side since day one. These little friends keep us company along our journey. She will be sorely missed.

Bad Gear - It's a MESS!!!

video upload by AudioPilz

"Welcome to Bad Gear, the show about the world’s most-hated audio tools. Today we are going to talk about Make Noise 0-Coast. This 2016 wannabe music tech influencer must-have and flyover state synth tried to bridge the gap between buchlaesque exploration and moog-ish accessibility and offers a wide range of modular flatulences with a mostly useless built-in anti-Eurorack safeguard. What a mess!"

Déjà vu: Flexible Fader Control for Audio & CV│Bastl Instruments

video upload by Bastl Instruments

"Bastl Déjà vu is a Swiss knife for your Eurorack System that adds fader control to your modular system for many scenarios. It stands out as a simple yet powerful utility module that can do crossfading, mixing, signal boosting, voltage processing, attenuation or attenuversion. All that in 4HP and with the possibility to chain several of them to mix even more signals."

Powerful Voltage Utility module for voltage processing, attenuation, signal boosting, crossfading, and mixing

Déjà vu adds fader control to your modular system and it stands out as a simple yet powerful utility module that can do voltage processing, mixing, attenuation, attenuversion, signal boosting, crossfading and mixing.

All that in 4HP and with the possibility of chaining several units to mix even more signals.

SWISS KNIFE FOR YOUR RACK

Déjà vu has two almost identical channels A and B. Each channel has the FADER input and the ADD input and an output with light indication. The FADER MODE switch alters the behavior of the module, either attentuating or attenuverting the FADER input where the ADD input will be added to the processed FADER input. The last option is crossfading between the FADER Input and the ADD input which is great for creating performance oriented macro controls.

Dub Techno / Dub Ambient liveset - Home Concert 78

video upload by Martin Stürtzer

"For the first Home Concert of 2026 I recorded a liveset with Dub Ambient and Dub Techno music. The set starts with three Dub Ambient tracks in the 80bpm range. Followed by two faster Dub Techno tracks featuring sounds from the Super-6 and Oberheim OB6. The sets closes with a slower Dub Techno track with washy chords from the Roland Juno 60. The music of this set is exclusively available here on Youtube until I finish the productions and can upload the music to Bandcamp and the streaming services.

All music was created by a (cat assisted) human. No AI tools were involved in the production of the music and artwork.

"The final and most unique PĒRKONS HD-01 Limited Edition run of 100 units features a sophisticated industrial grey enclosure, signature lighting strike engraved panels and a special touch – each unit is signed by our self-proclaimed visionary, Ģirts. The side panels are made from a selection of woods, handpicked by our friend - an artisan craftsman named Sandis Vāgners. Cherry, walnut, ash, teak, sapele, maple and padouk are featured in various combinations, creating a unique infusion of character for each pair of panels with a premium lacquer finish to bring out the characteristic grain of each wood. The engraved pattern is achieved with the Lichtenburg burning method that ensures a truly unique pattern on each panel.

Each voice has 3 sound engine modes, an HP/BP/LP filter and 8 controls for nuanced sound design, including an internal BBD FX send. All voice parameter settings can be saved as KITS. To add dynamics to the performance, parameter automation is implemented and a modulation LFO can be assigned to all parameters.

For a real thunderstorm, integration with external gear is considered - each voice has a dedicated trigger input, individual output, and FX send and return with 6.3mm jack sockets, along with extensive MIDI implementation. All voices are summed and run through a built-in compressor.

Time to ride the skies!"
