"The Oberheim Matrix-12 is the synth you've asked us for more than any other, and it's here. Oberheim's most ambitious analogue synthesiser, reborn with modern power.
The Matrix-12 gave Vangelis, Depeche Mode, The Orb and Technotronic some of the thickest pads, sweeps and basses ever recorded. Twelve voices, a fifteen-mode filter and Matrix Modulation, with the routing map printed on the panel because no screen could show it.
This is the only official Oberheim Matrix-12 and Xpander software instrument, created with Oberheim and Marcus Ryle, the original designer. We modelled the oscillators, filter and envelope shapes against the hardware, then made the matrix visible. Drag from any source to any knob and watch the Flow diagram and Mod Matrix show exactly how each voice is built.

"I own an Oberheim Matrix-12. GForce and Oberheim have made the first official plugin version of it, so I put the two side by side and tried to break both.
What I found:
VCO drift is identical, which is the thing people actually want from an analog emulation.
Filter FM is where plugins usually fail, Arturia in particular, and it is the most impressive thing here.
All fifteen filter modes are very close, though you generally have to push the resonance further on the software to match.
There are real differences in the noise, in oscillator brightness and in the envelope and LFO times. Some of those might be my 41 year old unit rather than their model.
It does not sound exactly like my hardware. It might sound exactly like the hardware they modelled it on.

'The Moog One was released in 2018 to much fanfare and high expectations. By all accounts, it was the greatest analog polysynth ever made; 16 voices, 3 oscillators, dual filters, knob-per-function, and Eventide effects. On paper at least, it was unbelievable. In person, it was astounding to play. Sounds were unlike anything ever made, and it lived up to the hype. But there were problems underneath. The volume knob was an unfamiliar taper. The filters didn't really drive much. There was very little distortion because of so much headroom in the mixer. The effects were underwhelming. And the fan noise to cool all that analog circuitry was loud and omnipresent. I know all this, because I beta tested it for over a year. All told, I entered 119 bugs and feature requests. To Moog's credit, they fixed about 89 of them.
When we set out to make this the ultimate homage version, we wanted everything possible, including improvements. But that wasn't enough; it had to play my original patches, offer all the improvements we could think of, and sound exactly like the original, but better.
TL;DR: it does.
The oscillators now include all the familiar analog shapes-- with sharpening, digital wavetables (including your own if you're bold enough), drawable shapes, and much more. The filters include the originals, modelled to within a dB at all ranges, plus most classic analog synth cart type additions, learned from all our other synth models. Plus, we added patch jacks for fast modulation routes. Plus, DRIVE and analog feedback loop lifted from Minimoog circuitry. CP3 mixer technology for even more vintage clarity. Instability along the way that isn't intrusive. Freely routable better snappy envelopes. A sequencer that outputs multiple lanes that you can drag anywhere. Effects that start with what should've shipped in the original, enhanced with legendary features. And if that's not enough, you can use your own VST3 effects inside it-- a world's first! All of this wrapped up in our EZ button. Randomize your way to your next sound and get there faster than you would've guessed. And best of all--- a cooling fan that is near dead silent, measured to within .001 dB of the original, then completely cancelled out!

"We spoke to Lorrain from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music at M-China26 about two projects developed for her undergraduate coursework. Euclidean rhythm sequencer is a browser-based piece that lets you tap to change the sequence and record your own sound. It uses web technologies, including WebAudio and WebMidi, and was running on a local network rather than as a public web service.
The second project is a visual and sound piece based around a pet cat. It uses wave terrain synthesis, with the cat chasing a light across changing terrain. The terrain height defines the waveform, and the cat's movement changes the resulting sound.
This is coursework rather than a commercial product, we wish Lorrain well in her chosen career once she graduates.
"If you could pack everything you ever wanted into a modular synth, and then put it in a suitcase, chances are it would reference the EMS Synthi AKS/VCS from the 1970's. Recently companies have released hardware editions that sound glorious. There's even a monster ultimate reissue called Analogue Solutions Colossus which I'm sure sounds incredible. The original was notorious not only for its clean look and capabilities but weird sounds even Brian Eno said "...great for bug noises" but he used it for decades as an effects processor as well. We've taken issue with this... it CAN be musical!

"You can build a whole track in it: lay down drums and 808s, play or draw melodies with the Horror Keys, record your voice and chop your own samples. There's a song arranger, mixer, live vocal FX with a talkbox mode, tape echo, reverb and a step-sequenced glitch rack. MIDI keyboard input and clock sync are in there too, and you can record or render the result to WAV.
I also added a few skins and hid some Easter eggs. Curious if you'll find them."
"Kanru from Dreamtonics gave us a look at Synthesizer V, Instrument X and VocalFlex at Music China 2026. Synthesizer V is a vocal synthesis system rather than a prompt-based generator. It runs completely offline and converts MIDI notes with typed lyrics into audio.
Since our previous coverage at ADC in Brisatol, the Synthesizer V 2.3.0 beta adds Portuguese, French, German and Italian support. It also includes detailed phoneme editing, so vowel and pronunciation choices can be adjusted per note. Language selection is handled from a dropdown, but the software does not translate lyrics.
Instrument X is the instrumental counterpart, with a launch collection of 15 orchestral and jazz instruments. It uses neural network synthesis combined with physics modelling, runs offline on CPU, and supports Mac and Windows. Articulations replace lyrics in the editor, with staccato, slurs, accents, portamento and pitch curves available. It works as an instrument plug-in and via ARA.
VocalFlex is a real-time voice transformation plug-in with morphing between reference timbres. All three products are one-time purchases, with the Trilogy bundle priced at around $299.

It was written clean room from the behaviour of the unit, is bit exact to the original DSP program and was checked against a real Nord Lead 1, so no ROM or firmware is needed. 48 voices, unison, morph, arpeggiator and all four slots A-D, each on its own MIDI channel, with its own editor below the rack.
