Plasma Voice: An Electro and an Industrial noodle (no talk)

"As my grandmother used to advise: 'They can't shoot you for asking'. So I asked GamechangerAudio if they might send me a Plasma Voice module - and here it is.

It's easy to get started - just send it a trigger or a MIDI sequence (MIDI adaptor cable is included). From there you can get as complex as you like. In the first noodle the DB-01 is sending it a basic pattern and the Plasma Voice and DB-01 are doubled up playing it. Some synced LFO CV is switching voices in the bass and lead category. My daughter pulled a face when she heard me editing this and said it sounded 'loose', so I added some drums in the DAW. And then a few extra vocal samples for seasoning.

CV comes from the SPC Neptune 8-LFO module (currently in development). This is an early prototype but is just the thing for sending lots of synced modulation. The Plasma Voice loves being fed.

The second piece is pure Plasma Voice fed into the Nightverb. Quotes are from the original 1938 Halloween broadcast of The War of the Worlds. Again lots of CV tweaking the core sounds.

As usual the sound is not subsequently modified, EQed or processed in any way in the DAW (except the added drums in Noodle 1).

"We cruise along California Highway 52, a beautiful freeway that traverses the rolling hills of northern San Diego. We start in the town of Santee and take 52 all the way to its western end in the La Jolla neighborhood of San Diego, continuing on La Jolla Parkway. Along the way, we cross several of the regions north-south freeways.

Original soundtrack composed and performed by Amanda Chaudhary, who played and/or hand-edited each part live. Instruments used include:

norns shield: Runs awake; phrases are altered live with a monome grid. The output goes through a ‪@ChaseBlissAudio‬ MOOD MK II for reverb, and near the end a micro-loop creates a dense cluster of tones.

LYRA-8: Plays drones and short phrases. Its signal is modulated with a BOSS CE-5 chorus, then processed by ‪@strymon‬ NIGHTSKY for filtering and reverb."

"A minimal house track driven by a straight, four-on-the-floor kick from the Roland TR-707, with melodic layers from the Nord Lead, Prophet-10, and Moog Grandmother.

TR-707: Individual outs send the kick, clap, and hi-hat separately.

Kick is recorded through a BASS DRIVER DI for extra punch.

Clap runs into a Boss DD-6 for delay, with feedback cranked at times.

Hi-hat passes through ‪@ChaseBlissAudio‬ LOSSY, adding gritty, filtered texture.

Nord Lead: Plays a minimal chord loop, treated with delay and reverb from a ‪@gfisys‬ Specular Tempus.

‪@SequentialLLC‬ Prophet-10: Slow-attack lead drenched in deep blueSky reverb, floating between pad and lead territory.

"This week I've received my Superlative SB01 (Space Bee)... after 6 years of patiently waiting! 😅 Super happy with it so far. Very beautiful to see and built like an American tank. Sound wise I cannot distinguish it from my SH-101 here. The SB01 actually sounds slightly better, probably due to the age of the components of my good old SH-101. And it's definitely a lot more solid and thinner than the original, due to the metal casing.

Instead of a full review or demonstrating all the classic 101 sounds that you find all over the internet already, I thought let's just practice a bit more with my ‪@somasynths‬ Cosmos and put the SB01 through it for some real-world sounds and live ambient, together with my good old JX-8P (always a great companion for 101 sounds).

All recorded in one take in Ableton, with a touch of salt from the ‪@strymon‬ BigSky.

"New day, new recording... With exactly the same setup as yesterday I've recorded another dark ambient jam, again with a primary role for the new Superlative SB01 (Space Bee), together with the Roland JX-8P through the wonderful ‪@somasynths‬ Cosmos.

This time I’ve managed to fix the video latency issue when exporting from Ableton, so video & audio should now be in sync. 😅

"Last 'long' video before a summer break (I'll be eventually uploading some 'Shorts' during July 😉)

It's been quite some time that I didn't make a "from scratch" video, so here we go again! (See all my "From scratch" videos) [embed below]

On the setup side on the sequencer (Keystep Pro), before recording:
I defined the tempo and number of bars of each track
I setup the scale (Dorian)
I setup the tracks I wanted to be transposed in real-time (tracks 2 = Minitaur and 3 = Streichfett).

The video starts with the recording on Track 2, of the BASS line (Moog - Minitaur), then on Track 3 the CHORDS/STRINGS (Waldorf - Streichfett), on Track 1 the DRUMS (Sonic Potions x Erica Synths - LXR-02), on Track 4 the ARP (Dreadbox - Nymphes + Strymon Timeline delay).
I recorded part of the DRUMS in real-time, and the KICK in step mode (hence being able to setup randomness on some steps and conditions too, i.e. the step plays on the fourth time it's triggered only...)"
