Turismo - Ambient Melodic Sequencing

"Our Eurorack modular workstation the 'Turismo' is well suited for sequencing beats and groove box style patching but the versatile system can fit equally well into less structured environments. In this patch we explored using the Turismo to sequence multiple ambient melodic voices including an SH-101 connected externally for control and processing by the system.

"'MFX motto' is a multi-effects plugin from ALM Busy Circuits, which brings the much lauded FX engines from our 'MFX' Eurorack Module, Guitar Pedal and Desktop plugins to the iPad with the unique ability to now chain multiple effects. In this video we demo the plugin with a hybrid hardware + iPad setup using the AUM mixer/syncing app.

Inspired by our favourite classic hardware effects processors, the MFX motto incorporates DSP technologies from the dawn of digital effects in the 70s to the present day. This combines with ALM character and uniqueness to form a highly useful, fun and practical iPad effects processor.

Bend time space and pitch with multiple feature rich reverb and delay engines. Modulate signals with the flexible panner, phaser and range of ensembles. Fracture sounds with a one of a kind glitch engine. Reshape sound with the dynamics engine.

Important! MFX motto is an Audio Unit Effects Plugin (AUv3) which requires a compatible host or DAW to work such as Garageband, AUM etc. It does not work as a standalone app.

Unique to the MFX motto is the ability to create custom effect chains of up to 11 effects in any order - all within the plugin itself - allowing for clear, efficient routing between multiple effects.

"A one take performance, pairing the Seventh Summoner with the Arp Of Darkness showing how the two used together can turn a small rig into a full featured performance case.

Patch Notes: All clicking duties are handled by Pam’s Pro Workout.

Voice 1 is sequenced by the Seventh Summoner and consists of the vowel patch on Braids through the Ensembles patch on the MFX and then into the retro patch on a Noise Engineering Desmodus Versio with the “MultiVersio” firmware flashed to it. The vowel patch is being modulated by Ebb & LFO patch on the Ornament & Crime running the Phaserville Suite

Voice 2 is a saw wave oscillator from the Disting MK4 processed through a Pittsburgh Modular low pass filter, and being sequenced by Sequence X on an Ornament & Crime module with the Phaserville Suite firmware running.

Voice 3 is being arpeggiated by the Arp Of Darkness, and is made up of a swarm & harm patch on the Neutron Sound Dust of Time running through a ping pong delay on another Disting MK4 by Expert Sleepers.

In-Case Drums are being handled by an Erica Synths Pico Drums module running through A low pass filter on another Disting MK4 and into Data Bender by Qu-Bit for glitching duties.

All outputs run through a Kombucha by WGD for delay send duties and then into a Befaco STMIX for mix down to an Intellijel Headphones output in the 1U row.

Additional drums provided by the K.O. II by Teenage Engineering running my own personal samples."

"The 'Stem Ripper' is a compact 8 channel audio recorder designed for immediate full patch recording without the need for external hardware. Capture all audio stems of a patch with ease.

In this video we multitrack a basic patch using the Stem Ripper then copy the stems to a computer for basic mixing and editing in Logic Pro.

Patch stems are recorded directly to a micro SD card which can then be easily transferred to a computer to mix, edit or archive patches. Each input is recorded as an individual track in a 16bit 44.1kHz multichannel date stamped WAV file. Record time is limited only by SD Card size. Two additional tracks within the output WAV contain a configurable stereo mix down of the inputs. The module has large 20Vpp per input headroom with LED clip indication if exceeded.

An optional 2HP 'Thru' output expander duplicates the 8 inputs to a row of unbuffered outputs, eliminating the potential need for stacking patch cables at the expense of more case real estate.

A suitable 64Gb SD card is included with the unit."

This is why eurorack exists to me. I would never come to these sorts of results through any other workflow or gear, would never stumble on these harmonies or gently cascading notes, would never feel out the song progression on a computer or even with a more traditional hardware setup. There are many things eurorack doesn't do as well, but moments like this make me realize why it's so special.

This video explores why digital music can never truly be real, and why analog gear remains the only way to feel sound at the source.

The world is in transit, like it or not.
Music evolved from the stage into the box, from real media to streams, and now from streams into learning models, weights, and rewards.
We can endlessly debate whether AI is OK or not, but we can’t put the demons back into their bottles.

Introducing MUM M8 DSP - Low Pass Filter Plug-in

"‘MUM M8 DSP’ is a low pass filter plug-in emulating the filter used in the classic Akai S950 12 bit sampler with the addition of resonance, saturation and bit depth reduction. This in turn emulates our MUM M8 eurorack module which uses a similar filter design.

In this video we take a quick look at the MUM M8 DSP processing multiple sources in Ableton Live.

The low pass filter gives the recognisable super smooth vacuum like tone sucking sound which works magic on complex sources. The addition of clipped overdrive and intentionally aggressive self oscillating resonance compliment the smooth filter core by juxtaposing it into more wasp like territory with acidic squeals and a more gritty sound.

Unique to the plug-in are a clock bleed switch, introducing audible artifacts into the filter path emulating some of the quirks of the original hardware, and a Bit Depth control for downsampling the input for a more character-rich output.

‘MUM M8 DSP’ offers an authentic digital emulation of the original hardware, recreating its distinct sonic character for use for use in your DAW.

TLDR: The Move is great. Works really well using the Intellijel MIDI 1U via USB to sync the modular to the Move and send a channel of pitch, gate & velocity.
