"At NAMM 2025, we caught up with Ed from Embodme who introduced us to the *ERAE2*, their latest MIDI controller. This final version began shipping recently and incorporates MPE technology, allowing you to design different layouts and access them easily through dedicated buttons. The ERA2 features 3D touch technology, enabling you to interact with sound using pressure, direction, and slide motions, creating a dynamic audio-visual experience.

A notable feature is the looper, which can handle up to eight overlapping loops and offers on-the-fly BPM changes. The device connects via USB to computers or synths and offers several MIDI and CV outputs. Ed demonstrated how the companion software, EraeLab, facilitates infinite layout customization through a drag-and-drop interface. ERAE 2 Production is Underway, and Shipping Has Begun!

"We're excited to share that shipping officially started last week! As this marks our first large-scale production of 1,000 units, we're proceeding step by step to ensure everything meets the highest standards.

Our commitment to quality control is thorough, but we did encounter a minor hiccup with the first 10 units. The thread lock securing the mount on the back was too tight, making it difficult to swap out the fabric/silicone skins. Rest assured, we've addressed this issue to ensure smooth functionality moving forward.
Every day in December, units are being assembled, tested, and shipped in chronological order of purchase. Our trusted manufacturing partner, Picca, has been instrumental in this process. With years of collaboration on products like the Erae Touch and Norand Mono, we have complete confidence in their dedication. We even spent a week on-site with their team in Shenzhen to fine-tune every step of the production process.

"At NAMM 2024 we met up with Edgar from Embodme who unveiled the prototype of ERAE II. This new controller offers a range of innovative features, with improved sensitivity being the standout improvement. The playing surface is now covered with a fabric that provides a unique touch and enhances the detection of finger movements. For drummers, the skin can be easily changed to a black silicon material more suited for their playing style.

Aside from the enhanced sensitivity, the ERAE II also boasts dedicated button switches, a new LCD, MPE abilities, and an embedded looper allowing for easy looping and offering quantization options, making it perfect for spontaneous play. The controller also offers connectivity options such as multiple CV gates out and two MIDI outs for analog synths. To control and configure the ERA-2, the companion software ERA Lab is available, offering endless possibilities in terms of mapping and customization.

"Edgar Hemery introduced us to Embodme's beautiful MIDI controller Erae Touch. These surfaces allow for flexible layouts which users can freely configure themselves. They feature about 1000 LEDs and force sensors, which make them sensitive to touch, including after touch, continuous gestures, and release velocity. They are also durable enough to be used with drumsticks.

These surfaces are connected via USB-C or MIDI 2.0 via mini-jack, and the configuration of the layouts is done through the Eerie Lab Editor, which allows users to drag and drop elements, change colors, and create custom objects. Up to 16 layouts can be saved and recalled for each channel.

We're pleased to present the new Pulsar-23 Andrew Huang Edition: a vibrant yellow version of the one-of-a-kind, organismic semi-modular drum machine made in collaboration between SOMA and the producer and YouTuber himself. SOMA's Pulsar-23 has become a go-to instrument for subverting the expectations of what a drum machine can or should do, attracting the interest of curious musicians looking for something a little bit different out of their drum synthesizer. With this version finished in a vibrant yellow personally chosen by Andrew Huang, the Pulsar-23 has become a favorite part of Andrew's studio due to its open-ended patching structure and rejection of standard drum machine tropes. The results may not always be what you expect, but like many other SOMA devices, Pulsar-23 creates a seemingly organic connection between the musician and instrument, tapping into the deeper parts of your subconscious mind to rely on instinct and reaction rather than conscious decision-making.

"The Erae Touch from Embodme has slipped under our radar somewhat, as we've not seen it in the flesh before. We had a look at the unit at Synthplex and saw that there are some pretty cool features, using the large backlit control surface for some nifty interface chops. They've also managed to get the response time right down that makes it possible to trigger the completely configurable playing surface with sticks.

It puts us in mind of the Jazz Mutant Lemur crossed with the Roli blocks. Its fully MPE compatible and has an editor enabling user configurations aplenty.
