Follow-up to Sneak Peak From the Halls - Music China 2026

"Nick's video of a quick visit to the show floor before the opening of Music China 2026 got a load of interest, primarily because Nick & Tami X ended up having a sneaky peek under the wraps at the Behringer stand...

Today the show officially started, so one of the first visits was a whilstle-stop tour of some of the new items - Kevin from Behringer gave us a look at Pro-16, RD-765 and several other early units at Music China 2026.

The Pro-16 is a 16-voice synth based on the Prophet-5 voice architecture. It supports poly aftertouch and includes a split mode with separate left and right parts. The unit is in final form, with global release already underway and China availability expected soon.

The RD-765 is a new drum machine with a layout that references Linndrum and classic Roland-style boxes. It includes classic FX routing, separate outputs, three trigger outputs, MIDI in and out, sync, and an input for sampling. It currently contains basic samples across 16 voices, stores kits, and allows different sounds to be assigned to pads.

We also saw the BCR-32, which includes a sequencer and four pairs of CV outputs. Other early units included a Polyvox-style synth, the JT-2 Mutator envelope follower, Mini Pops-style rhythm hardware, several controllers, and monophonic D-Mini, AKS-Mini and CS-Mini units.

Pricing, details and release dates for many of these remain a bit of a mystery though - I'm sure we'll find out more soon."

You might remember Behringer's Polyeight teased back in April of 2021.

"Nick and TamiX took a pre-show walk around the Behringer booth at M-China26, with a quick look at a few products before the show floor opened properly.

The preview included the BCR32, Minipop 7, Poly 8, Pro 16 and JN80. The Poly 8 appears to be an 8 voice Poly 6, while the RD-765 unit has styling in the area of classic 909 and 707 drum machines - maybe?
There are also compact controllers with familiar layouts."

This is the celestial canvas playing ouroboros — the first demo, and the one that shows what the clock really is. A single voice walks D, F, A, C, E while the tempo itself orbits: 40 bpm, up to 280, and back down, forever. Because the clock's own rate is fed back into the clock. The snake eats its tail.

3. Orrery - Canon in Em

This is Orrery's celestial canvas playing Canon in Em — a strict three-voice canon in E minor, doing exactly what the docs always promised. One theme, eight bars, an original line. It enters, and two wormholes swallow every two-bar phrase and return it unchanged, on time: the same melody at +2 bars, and at +4 bars, forever. Pachelbel's ground, translated — i, v, VI, III, iv, i, iv, v — in natural minor, where the dominant stays minor and the cadence stays modal. 80 bpm. Four minutes. No scenes, no supernovas, no shortcuts: the form is the canon.

4. Orrery - Undertow

One static texture, three rhythms braiding against a bar.
The piece: a Glass-style additive ladder climbs D5→D6, a tresillo thumps on the grid, and a 2-in-7 euclid pattern laps at the beat but never quite lands — the one voice that refuses the bar. The polyrhythm is the entire form. In the middle section the ladder learns to breathe — ties, rests, an accented held apex — before the machine returns, unchanged.

GRAVITY IS A CHORD.
WORMHOLES ARE CANON MACHINES.

You drop bodies into a sky and wire their ports together. A clock keeps time. A key holds the tonality. A progression walks the changes, a voice-leader smooths them, and a gravity well bends everything nearby toward its centre. Wire a body's output into another's input and the second one starts listening.

Beads sit on the wires and do the arithmetic — scale, offset, clamp, curve, lag — so a die roll can drive a filter sweep and a slow contour can nudge a whole section. The machine has no opinions. It has a clock.

A New 2026 Alesis Andromeda Firmware Update

"Hello everyone! This is quite an unusual post, but I'd just like to share that I've been working on a brand new firmware update for the Andromeda. Built off of the 2002 firmware, It fixes many bugs like jumpy potentiometers, makes envelopes snappier and smoother, lowers oscillator levels so they don't clip excessively when pushed to 100%, and so far adds brand new features like a 'vintage' knob (akin to a modern Prophet), and a Matrix-12 styled true stereo voice spread knob, all under a new "A6Plus" page of the Global tab.

Here's a video showing off the vintage knob and the stereo spread, no internal/external FX: I'm still continuing to work on this, adding new features, and address the DSP engine to make effects less clipped and harsh. But if there are any bugs, features that people think should be addressed let me know.

I'm hesitant to release it as this is very much a 'load at your own risk' as like any experimental firmware it could brick hardware, especially since this was written with Claude, which bruteforced, decoded and reversed engineered the original firmware to build new updates, but it runs just fine on my Andromeda. The firmware does not touch the Bootloader at all which acts as a backup failsafe. This is still very early in development, but I just wanted to share this project to let folks know the future is bright for this amazing synth! :)"

OPEN-1 is an idea for an open, entry-level synth: a 37-key instrument that becomes a new machine every time you pick a firmware from the SD card. In this concept video it runs a simulated HYP-1, in time with a real HYP-1 live take.
