Argh, where is the clock?? :(
ReplyDeleteWouldn't the clock be on your computer mr. array?
ReplyDeleteI just had a why didn't I think of of one of these moments.
Midi clock on a computer needs a way to be converted to clock pulses a modular or analog gates can use to trigger. Since this has a sync output that looks like it would control TR-808's, 303's, etc., a cable could be made to adapt those pulses to whatever jacks a synth needs for clock.
ReplyDeleteI'm confussed. That mean its useless? I've used a 303 as sequencer to send notes to my OB-SX via CV and Gate only. It didn't need a clock to make the OB play. Seemed to work fine, what am I missing out on? would that be if you've got a sequencer on both that need some syncing? The CV & Gate is out to the modular or analog right? Timing of note on/offs and amp would come from your puters sequencer with this thing I'm thinking no yeah? More to it than I know probably.
ReplyDeletemaybe I had the clock hooked up too. I could be just all confused, but that be the case fairly useless box then? Did they miss something that important on it?
ReplyDeleteYou need a clock signal to drive analog step sequencers. Normally a square wave would do, but a MIDI->CV adapter would need a clock output if you want your analog step sequencer(s) to run in sync with the rest of your gear.
ReplyDeleteAh ok gotya mr array. making some sense to me now.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean? Isnt the gate output enough?
ReplyDeleteApearently, I'm thinking they just want a clock signal, then they don't even need CV or Gate if their modular or analog synth already has a sequencer. Otherwise, yeah clock from the computer is used on the computer for sequencing notes to the Gate & CV. It oughta work fine for something like an Arp Oddy I'm thinking. Those bastards probably have huge ass modulars ya know, they need more ;)
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if I could use one of these to sequence my non MIDI Poly 61 with Ableton Live? CV is something I've never used.
ReplyDeleteI'm not crazy about the teal case. Looks like an electric pencil sharpener or something.
Ok Zamise that's what i thought. Anyway - ive been waiting for ages to get a gizmo like this and i'll definetly buy a couple... Btw, can you assign different midi channels to different usb->cv/gate boxes? I hope so, otherwise it would be pretty useless... Well, well - ill have to buy a couple and try it i guess (theres not much info on the web.site)
ReplyDeletehelo!detronics can not work without computer????
