The Prism Lazer Guitar Synth

"A short video demonstrating the basic functions of the Prism laser guitar. Triangle, Sine and Square wave frequency sweeps are shown. See the complete project at http://www.instructables.com/id/The-P..."

Prism Effects Demo

"Here I demonstrate the "effects" available on the Prism laser guitar. The Skew control distorts sine and triangle waves to add a metallic buzz. The Sync control creates some neat frequency deviations and wild sounds, especially when doing sweeps. The LFO (low frequency oscillator) can be changed to induce anywhere from a slow rise and fall in frequency, to a rapid modulation resembles vibrato. And of course, more than one can be used at once!"

Prism Music Demo

"OK, I admit, I'm a total newbie when it comes to playing the Prism laser guitar. What can I say? I played clarinet in grade 9 and my formal musical training ended there. Watch as I fool around with various functions and try to extract some neat sounds. This thing would be awesome with a delay or echo effect pedal."

  1. cool! the lasers are a nice idea.

I am building something very similar (without lasers, and much more lo-tech though)...
videos come soon, once the build is nicer.

  2. What the hell would be the practical application of this? It needs an amplitude envelope at the very least. It's fine that it can go slide whistle emulations, but if you are going to take a bass guitar form factor complete with tuning keys, you better have some more musical diatonic ways to interact with it.
