"A rare unit by Tascam. Called the rs-30 recording simulator its actually a very nice reverb unit.... im not sure exactly what is meant by 'according simulator'. 4 reverb modes ,basically a hall type reverb where the reverb gets longer 1-short , 4-very long.
It's also a stereo reverb with stereo inputs and outputs. One interesting aspect is the "excitor" which basically adds drive to the reverb signal. Quite an interesting effect when you overdrive th signal."
I had the opportunity to buy one of these 15 or so years ago. It seemed like a clever and compact unit to process vocals, but I eventually went in a less experimental direction. I too never understood why this was called a "recording simulator" until now when this would be so useful. Early home studio / mid-pro mixers often lacked extensive routing to achieve certain things easily and one of these for me is getting a useful headphone mix from my Tascam M50 to my vocal booth when I'm in there. All my rack gear is outside with the desk and I'm obviously unable to tweak those controls myself - so what would be really handy is some way to effect my vocal in headphones from within the booth. This unit would allow me to effect a direct out (pre fader send) of my vocal before returning it to a bus (which have stereo insert jacks) to be combined with the rest of the headphone mix, giving me a comforting preview of what the finish product could be. Problem is I haven't seen an rs-30 pop up in nearly a decade, and searching is how I've ended up on this great website again :)
