Modular Synth Basics #02: CV, Gate, Trigger & MIDI

Published on Feb 26, 2014

"What are Control Voltages/CV, Gate Signals, Triggers and MIDI data? You'll need (almost) all of them to control your Eurirack modular synthesizer!"

Modular Synth Basics #03: How to start?

"Some thoughts on how to start building a Eurorack modular synth system?"

Modular Synth Basics #04: Simple Synth Voice Patch

Published on Mar 2, 2014

"Our first patch! A simple synth voice, like in a non-modular synthesizer. EXPAND FOR MORE INFOS and subscribe for more videos: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_c...

My Eurorack System: http://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/vi...

PATCH NOTES:

VCO = Voltage Controlled Oscillator (creates audible waves)
VCF = Voltage Controlled Filter (removes frequencies from audio)
VCA = Voltage Controlled Amplifier (controls a signals volume/amplitude)
ADSR = Attack Decay Sustain Release Envelope Generator (creates a 4-stage CV envelope when triggered)
LFO = Low Frequency Oscillator (creates very slow inaudible waves, used as CV)

Audio Signal Routing:
VCO waveform output -to- VCF audio input
VCF Low Pass output -to- VCA audio input
VCA audio output -to- Mixer input
Mixer output -to- Audio Recorder input

Control Voltage (CV) Signal Routing:
MIDI-CV Gate output -to- ADSR Gate input
ADSR Envelope output -to- VCA CV input
MIDI-CV Pitch CV output -to- VCO 1V/Oct input
LFO output -to- VCF Frequency CV input"

"... and a little bit about AC coupling & DC coupling."

Modular Synth Basics #06: Powering a Eurorack System

Published on Mar 4, 2014

"How many Eurorack modules can you connect to a power supply? What are the pins on a bus board?"

Modular Synth Basics #07: Blind Panels

"What do you do with holes in your modular synth case? Blind Panels!"

Modular Synth Basics #08: Multiples

Published on Mar 6, 2014 The Tuesday Night Machines·90 videos

"Multiples let you copy signals, so that you can use them more than once in yout modular synth."

Modular Synth Basics #09: linear & exponential

Published on Mar 8, 2014 The Tuesday Night Machines·91 videos

"Why do we differentiate between Audio and CV mixers, and what are linear VCAs and exponential VCAs?"

Modular Synth Basics #10: Clocks & Sequencers

Modular Synth Basics #12: Envelopes & Function Generators

Published on Aug 16, 2014 The Tuesday Night Machines

"Envelope Generators and Function Generators create CV signals which change over time. They are often more complex than LFOs and really useful for plenty of occasions."

Modular Synth Basics #13: VCAs

Published on Aug 16, 2014

"VCAs are voltage controlled attenuators or amplifiers, which are a very important part in a synthesizer. You might have heard people say "You can't have enough VCAs" and they're quite right."
