'The beta models of SidStations used by Elektron and their beta testers had a shining red color. It is doubtful that any of these exist outside the actual company and their beta-test partners.'"
This is up for auction.
Title link takes you to a flickr set with more shots. Also mirrored here.
This kinda makes me want to disassemble my sidstation, and get the casing anodized.
ReplyDeleteI only like to buy one-of-a-kind things in pairs.
ReplyDeleteI always wondered how rare the red ones were. Saw some pics on the elektron website a while ago.
ReplyDeleteI missed the ninja edition by a few months when it came out... It looked really nice!
2000 is a lot of cash... And from someone with only 1 feedback, i find the auction a bit scary...
Anyways, i think it looks great!
I'm gonna buy it and rub my nads on it.
ReplyDeleteSidstations are a scam perpetrated on the hipsters stupid enough to buy them, IMO. You can just build a midiboxSID yourself, which is 100 times better with more hands on control. (oh and this is not just a baseless post. all of the sidstation owners that I know of are in fact mindless hipsters.) True SID afficcionados build their own.
ReplyDeleteWho is to say that this is not just a normal sidstation that has had the casing dyed red with metal dye? OOOOhhh. I bet nobody thought of that one! ;) Snap!!
ReplyDeleteEXACTLY!!!
ReplyDeleteIf you are willing to pay for a sub-par item when there are DIY alternatives that blow it away both feature-wise and sound-wise than you are indeed both mindless and a hipster. If the artists that you mentioned were in fact as talented as you (and they) believe then they could have built a midibox-sid themselves, no?
ReplyDeleteThe Sidstation came first. The midibox sid project is a better SID source, but it wasn't around till later.
ReplyDeleteThe anodizing or dye would not affect the existing silkscreening on a regular Sidstation??
ReplyDeleteI agree about the midibox SID being better. However, as one anonymous said, "it wasn't around till later." Later being 2002/2003. I personally bought my SID in 2001.
ReplyDeleteI believe anodizing the case would require the original graphics to be buffed off. I have a friend that is in this line of work. I'll ask him next time I speak with him.
Building electronic gear is not everyone's cup of tea. I totally understand why someone would pay for a sidstation instead of building a midibox sid.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that we have the choice :)
