I got to interview their techs once, and at that time the only midi being used was on the keytar, to control a nord (I think, it was a while ago). They were close to all analog, and as a result had to bring two of every type of synth on tour, due to constant breakdowns.
"Their setup this time must be easier for touring."
Nope! They spent half their set time at Coachella with a technical problem, and then blew everyone away with 4 or 5 songs and then got cut off because they had to tear down for Damien Rice :(.
What they did play was well worth the 40 minute wait in the huge crowd, though.
I'm not the best spotter but I did see an MS-20 (and a tech reprogram the patch between tracks) and some other vintage analogs.
Ha ha, when I saw them a few years ago they were using the real thing (analog synth/vocoder). Their setup this time must be easier for touring.

ReplyDeleteI saw them last week here in Minneapolis. Just awesome. Gobs and gobs of gear there. They kept it very "live" which is commendable.
