Speech Synthesizer - SP0256 (Circa 1992)

"I recently found this project from 1992 while opening boxes from our house move.
I guess you could call it a self contained speak jet unit. The eeprom is cycled via the 4040 to pluck the 'phenomes' from the sp0256-al2 to string robotic words together.
Using the venerable SP0256 speech chip and an eeprom to string the speech elements along this hardware interpretation could be a standalone speech unit. It is sadly not fully functional at present and due to its age not likely to get to my test bench quickly for diagnosis. In it's hay day it said such things as "Hello I am a computer", "Electronics is fun" "G0CPV" and my name.
The timing crystal for those of you who know this chip, is on the backside of the board.
This photo has notes. Move your mouse over the photo to see them."
