I love the colored knobs on this thing.
"While The Good Graces were waiting for The Evening Muse to open up for our show in Charlotte last Saturday, we stumbled across this little gallery called Beet in the NoDa part of town. It just so happened that they had a gallery set up with these playable guitar and synth wooden art pieces made by Ben Simon. We plugged in and rocked out." If anyone knows where to find more info on Ben Simon's work, feel free to comment or shoot me an email - my contact info is on the bottom right of the site.
Update: some info via Ben Simon: "The purple keyboard is made of the woods: purple heart, santos mahogony (for the 'white keys') and an unidentified yellow wood for the black keys. The woods naturally occur as the colors they appeared as... (inother words, no staining or coloring of the woods happened - just an oil finish..) The circuit inside the keyboard is a Yamaha PSS-140 and its been rewired and modified (also called circuit bent)
I built this at my house in Indian Land South Carolina. I'm planning to make more in 2009.."
