Included in the disc:
"a set of documentaries and featurettes: View from the Overlook: Crafting The Shining, The Visions of Stanley Kubrick, The Making of The Shining (with an optional commentary by Stanley's daughter, Vivian, who directed the piece) and Wendy Carlos, Composer. They are all incredibly insightful and interesting,.."
Anyone know what synths she used for the soundtrack?
On Amazon
Firstly it's not a DVD commentary, it's an interview as a bonus feature on the blu-ray and I think some newer DVDs (check for a mention of the features), it's definitely not on the older DVDs. Kubrick only used 2 Carlos pieces in the final film. Another bonus is the trailer with a fairly substantial 3rd piece not in the film.
ReplyDeleteAs I recall it's mostly Moog modular sometimes using her Circlon controller which is demonstrated as I recall. There are quite a few unused tracks on the Rediscovering Lost Scores, Volume 1 & 2 CDs. Quite a bit of the unused score was acoustic and I'm pretty sure there are treated voices in the title track.
The Shinning? or The Shining?
ReplyDeletefixed. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip. Picked up the DVD today primarily for the WC interview segment, and watched it tonight. Short, but worth it.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah and the movie is't bad either. :-)
