I’ve been too busy recently to come up with any music this weekend, so I only had a moment for a short practice session. I wasn't sure at first, but yeah... I’m uploading this just to show my process of searching for something meaningful. Sometimes you just need to sit down at your synthesizers, tweak some knobs, and even if nothing mindblowing comes out right away, it pays off in the long run. In the end, it always turns out to be worth it.

Lately I picked up another synth... yeah, GAS hits hard 😅 My first jam with the Gray Meanie! I still remember loading up Arturia's ARP 2600 emulation years ago and thinking, "what is this shit?" I didn't understand anything back then. I gave up on it pretty quickly and forgot all about it. Later, I found out through deadmau5's MasterClass that it was the synth behind R2-D2's voice, which got me interested again... but only for a while.

Fast forward to now, I finally bought one and decided it's time to actually learn it. I think it'll be a great addition to my semi-modular setup. I'm really enjoying it so far! Behringer did a solid job with this one: the leds looks great, feels really well built, and works really well with my korg sequencer.

Anyway... hope you find this little noodling session interesting! 🤘🏻

Gray Meanie stuff... I really need to learn this synth, feeling quite lost while jamming, so yeah... This isn't even a jam, it's just a noodling session, trying things out with the Korg SQ-64...

5. Paraphonic mode on Behringer 2600 | Noodling Session

First time using the 2600 in duo mode. I used the Arturia MicroBrute strictly as a keyboard controller, there's no sound coming from it here. The whole thing is just a raw jam with a many mistakes, but I was having a blast. I really love how the 2600 sounds as a paraphonic synth and I was completely lost in the zone while noodling...

Bob Moog 2003 NAMM Interview – Hosted by Frank Serafine

Many of you might know that Herb Deutsch suggested the keyboard as the main interface for the Moog synthesizer, while Morton Subotnic had an influence on Don Buchla in the development of the synthesizer as a repacement for working with tape for new sound creation and manipulation. Don Buchla did not want to limit the interface to a 12 note keyboard. Buchla has become synonymous with atonal music, and not viewing the purpose of a synthesizer as an instrument meant to synthesize known instruments, but rather as a sonic easel, hence the Buchla Music Easel. Moog in general is credited with the direction of keyboard based synthesis. It's fascinating hearing Bob Moog essentially say otherwise. This interview is from 2003, before internet discussions between East and West coast synthesis took off.

The interview was hosted by Frank Serafine (April 6th, 1953 – September 12th, 2018), a lauded American motion picture sound designer, sound editor, and composer.

Many thanks to Harold LaRue of haroldlaruemastering.com for editing the audio for us. He did a masterful job of editing out so much background noise from NAMM including vacuuming, someone playing a keyboard in the background, and so much more.

We lost Bob Moog on August 21st, 2005, and are proud to commemorate him and his legacy today on the 20th anniversary of the Bob Moog Foundation.

"This time, I'm keeping the same setup as my previous jam... [below] with one new member joining the party: the Moog Minitaur. 🎸

But the real star of this experiment is probably the Squarp Hapax.

I've been pushing its sequencing capabilities a little further this time, using a combination of its MIDI effects, automation and LFO modulation to make the different parts evolve throughout the performance.

I'm using several of the Hapax MIDI effects, including Euclid, Harmony, Random and Swing, as well as LFOs to continuously modulate MIDI parameters (using CC).

And I also wanted to explore the FILL feature a bit further.

For example, I use a Fill to create a drum break, while simultaneously triggering an LFO that sends CC messages to the TR-6S, increasing the level of its internal reverb during the break.

So the Hapax isn't simply telling the synths which notes to play anymore... it's also changing their behaviour while the music is happening. Quite a lot is happening behind the scenes, even if hopefully it doesn't sound like a Hapax having a nervous breakdown. 😄

The performance was recorded in a single take. I mixed and mastered the individual tracks afterwards in Ableton Live, but the actual performance wasn't edited or fixed."

"In this example of The River 2’s multitimbrality, Timbre A is a typical 'MOOG' sound, while Timbre B is a heavily modulated sound with the VCA constantly open. Also note the musicality of the glide ;)
All of this is achieved with a 4-voice prototype ;) The final version will have 8, (12?) or 16 voices. The final panel won’t look exactly like the application, but it will retain the same ergonomic layout and organization as the software.
