Encouraging all-new ways to think about sounds, Torso Electronics presents S-4, a so-called Sculpting Sampler combining tape-style workflow with modern granular techniques and boasting tons of modular flexibility. S-4 gives you four stereo audio tracks as your sonic canvas, from which you can easily craft automated tape loopers, polyphonic granular swarms, and more. Sounds may be captured from the built-in microphone, dual line inputs, or pulled from internal sample memory. You can even connect class-compliant USB audio interfaces for more I/O if needed.

In each of S-4's tracks, different devices and modulators may be dropped in to create customized audio capturing and playback systems. From live granulation and a 48-band morphing resonator to more typical delay/reverb and drive, there's no shortage of ways to shape sounds into totally new forms. And because each device supports up to four modulators, sounds can be ever-changing and evolving. S-4 lets you impart the influence of complex LFOs, generative sequencers, and envelopes onto practically any device parameter, ensuring that you're well-equipped to create truly malleable sound processing systems.

Of course, S-4 can play along with other bits and pieces of your studio. I/O for MIDI, analog sync, and USB-C give you the ability to link up any other synthesizer, drum machine, or software you might be using to make music. Speaking of linking, Wifi and Ableton Link support give you more flexibility in connecting to other wireless music machines, including other instruments and iOS devices or tablets. Possibly one of the most modern-minded sampling devices ever conceived, the S-4 is sure to challenge your notions of what samplers and loopers should be able to do.
