"In 1969 ARP Instruments was formed by Alan R. Pearlman, an electronics engineer. In 1970, ARP introduced its first modular synthesizer, the model 2500.

Unlike other modular synthesizers, the 2500 does not use patch cables to route the signal between its modules. It uses a unique 10x10 matrix switch system to accomplish signal routings. Modules are located in the center row of the cabinet, with the matrix switches located above and below the modules. Module inputs and outputs are represented by vertical switches, and the horizontal busses represent a patch cord. Color-coded pins are positioned horizontally along the matrix to make connections. This matrix system allows for a very flexible and customized signal flow without the mess of patch cables.
The 2500s are known to have superior oscillators to the Moog, offering reliable and stable tuning that does not drift. Many say they are the best sounding of any produced.
It is said that under 100 of the 2500’s were ever sold and very few of the wing cabinets were also sold. A 2500 system with two wings is a very rare bird. Especially in this condition.
This rare beautiful and massive system includes the center main cabinet (Model 2515) and (2) hyper rare wing cabinets (model 2508). All three cabinets are fully loaded. This large of a system new in the early 1970’s would cost about $28,000-$30,000 or so. Adjusted for inflation thats close to $250,000 if you could still buy one new.

CONDITION:
Cosmetically the photos reflect just how clean and preserved this unit is. It has not noticeably aged and was extremely well treated. Not used and moved once since 2012. I purchased the unit in 1991 and used it on recordings from 1997-2001. After that it sat until 2012 when I drove it from Los Angeles to Richmond Georgia to have the brilliant Phil Cirocco from CMS/Discrete Synthesizers restore, clean, rebuild and repair each module, power supply etc. He was instructed to keep the unit 100% original and replace parts with exact identical parts if at all humanly possible. The work was time consuming and done to a careful extreme. Frankly, he was the best and most qualified technician I have ever worked with in any audio capacity. Microphone Musical Instrument, Pro-Audio or Hi Fi. He was also the most ARP knowledgeable person I have met to date. When the unit was completed I drove back to Georgia and spent time with Phil reviewing his work and listening to the system. At that time it was perfect."
