Open source software I understand, but open source hardware? What? Is it made of wheat? Is it free hardware? If one is talking discreet electronic components, those can be purchased, but not everyone can make circuit boards on their kitchen table. Open source hardware sounds more like a boast than a fact. And calling it sustainable is just sales talk. No one is going to toss this into the mulcher when they are through with it.
