Note this is more organ than synth and not the equivalent to a GX-1.  See the comments in this post for details.  You'll find more pics at the auction. Note the video above is older and not from the auction.  Click the pics for the full size shots as always.

"For your consideration is a Yamaha EX-2. This polyphonic analog synthesizer is one of the rarest, most complex, and most expensive synthesizers ever built. Yamaha's flagship stage synthesizer/organ successor to the ultra rare Yamaha GX-1, this beautiful instrument packs all the sonic possibilities of a standard organ and polyphonic synthesizer into one gigantic and unique package. When released in 1977, the EX-2 had a $25,208 price tag. That's $96,227 today when adjusted for inflation, making it the fifth most expensive synth (in today's dollars) that Yamaha ever made, way more expensive than a CS-80 (which cost $6900 at that same time). Don't miss your chance to get this extremely rare and incredible-sounding synthesizer for much, much less!

Even better, this listing includes the extremely rare Yamaha TX-III tone cabinet that originally came with this unit. Also included are the bass pedals and the matching bench..."

Update: See the comments of this post for more info on the EX-42.  It's not a GX-1.

However: according to the list of Yamaha products on Wikipedia: "EX-42 (1970–1977, stage model, design origin of GX-1)"

"Yamaha Electone EX-42 Vintage Analog Synthesizer Organ Keyboard

with two (2) original Yamaha R-60B rotating tone cabinets (KILLS LESLIES!)

For your consideration is a Yamaha EX-42. This polyphonic analog synthesizer is one of the rarest, most complex, and most expensive synthesizers ever built. Yamaha's flagship synthesizer/organ precursor to the ultra rare Yamaha GX-1, this beautiful instrument packs all the sonic possibilities of a standard organ and polyphonic synthesizer into one gigantic and unique package. When released in 1970, the EX-42 had a $32,000 price tag. That's $182,000 today when adjusted for inflation, making it the second most expensive synth (in today's dollars) that Yamaha ever made. It is rumored that less than 200 were built. Don't miss your chance to get this extremely rare and incredible-sounding synthesizer for much, much less!

Even better, this listing includes the two extremely rare (2) Yamaha R-60B tone cabinets that originally came with this unit. You can see one Yamaha R-60B on the right side of the second picture and two in the third picture. The Yamaha R-60B kills any Leslie! It has three (3) vertically rotating speakers that are switchable on/off at the players option. The soundfields that this 200W tone cabinet creates are absolutely unreal.

This synth is in great condition. All the knobs and sliders that we have tested work perfectly, though we have not tested all of the functions on this synthesizer. Thus, it is sold as-is.

This auction also includes the synthesizer and bass pedals, but the matching bench is not included, as the owner prior to the previous owner wanted to keep it.

The features of this synthesizer are much too extensive to list here. There are a few videos on YouTube that fully detail all of the capabilities of the EX-42. Just search for "Yamaha EX-42" and prepare to be amazed. Make sure to look for the R-60B in action too!

This is a very large instrument - 45" high x 60" wide x 32" deep and nearly 500 lbs! - and can only be shipped via freight. The $590 shipping cost is just an estimate. Within the Continental U.S., transportation costs (freight or mover) will vary depending on proximity to Los Angeles, and typically takes more than one week to schedule and deliver. International shipments will be considerably more expensive and will take around two weeks to schedule and deliver..."

Update via Z in the comments: "The photo of the EX-42 in the crate was stolen from my Photobucket page. I took that photo 2 years ago when I sold a EX-42

YAMAHA ELECTONE EX 1 ORGAN SYNTHESIZER

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Note the EX-1 is not the pre-cursor to the GX-1. That would be the "EX-42 (1970–1977, stage model, design origin of GX-1)" according to the list of Yamaha products on Wikipedia.

"RARE YAMAHA EX-1 ELECTONE ORGAN / SYNTHESIZER W/AMPLIFIED SPEAKERS

2 main 61-note keyboards, a 37-note solo Synthesizer keyboard (with after touch and side-to-side key modulation capabilities), and full pedalboard, with coupling available between all keyboards and pedalboards. The solo keyboard can provide synth sounds similar to those used by Keith Emerson on 'Fanfare for the Common Man' and 'Peter Gunn'.

Built-in arpeggiator and (primitive) drum machine, effects, knee-lever control, great night-lighting system(!), auto-pitch bend, wah-wah pedal, reset Tones setting board, Sample & Hold with Synchro Auto-Rhythm and Auto Bass/Chord, headphone and Leslie speaker cabinet outputs, and much much more.

Includes the 2 large Yamaha TF-III self-amplified speaker cabinets and connecting cables. These will definitely shake the house!

A copy of the operation manual with full specifications, etc., Very rare and unusual piece, excellent condition - total weight with speakers is about 1000 pounds, so arrangements will have to be made BY BUYER for pick-up / crating / cartage by Keyboard Carriage or a similar moving company.

Yamaha EX-1 Electone Organ is in excellent condition, and is fully functional. This auction includes the Yamaha EX-1 Electone Organ, Bench, Pedalboard, two (2) TF-III Amplified Speakers, the operations manual and brochure"

Yamaha Electone "Synths"

Video of the Yamaha D-80 by Mattias. I always seem to forget that some of the Yamaha Electone home organs had synth sections and with the D-80, an arpeggiator as well.

Frank who is an Electone enthusiast posted the following on AH and gave me the ok to put it up here:

"I've got the 415: image

which is probably the last of their analogue spinet organs.

Very cool machine. The solo synth on mine sounds very SY-1 or SY-2'ish. You can have pitch and/or filter mod with left-to-right wiggling of the solo section keys too. It takes a little getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it can be pretty expressive.

The strings, with soft attack and longer release, through the synphonic ensemble (BBD ensemble) or the rotary speaker (!) can be very pleasant.

Jeff Koepper tried mine a couple of weeks ago and got all sorts of cool un-home-organ-like things out of it.

Yamaha made a whole bunch of these kinds of miniature three manual organs with solo synths in them. Earliest is probably the DK-40, then at least there was the D-80, D-85 and 415. The D-85 and 415 seem to be nearly identical, feature wise.

The DK-40 is technologically not too distant from the earliest group of Yamaha analogue organs, and I suspect it shares similar circuitry to the YC series of organs.

Also, the DK-40 has a 'fourth' manual, in the form of a separate 'portamento' synth, which is played from a ribbon controller to the left of the solo synth keys. You can just barely see it in this image the green tabs control the portamento ribbon, which extends right in front of them.

I kid myself that the 415 is sorta like a cut down EX-1. It isn't really, but it's fun to pretend, and I don't anticipate ever owning an EX-1, for a number of reasons! :-)

Frank
Electone enthusiast"

Update via buckystoppz in the comments:
"I also have the 415 and use it to death! People are sleeping on these, I got it for $120 on eBay locally. They were about $8000 new in the early eighties."
