"This listing is for a vintage Yamaha TQ5 FM synthesizer module in great condition. The TQ5 is an FM Workstation in a keyboardless desktop unit. It features FM operators per voice, 8 voices of polyphony, and 8-parts multitimbrality. It features easy "Quick Edit" keys to access some basic parameters for instant tweaks. There is also an free editor available online allowing you to get more in depth and complex patches. It sounds and works great and comes with a power supply"

Yamaha TQ-5 TQ5 FM Synth Module

via this auction

"For those who don't know anything about this- basically the 80's in an affordable box- plug this into a Midi Controller and Viola! For those who may be looking for a DX-100, DX-21, DX-11, FB-01, or TX81Z-- this has the same 4 Operator FM Synth Architecture. Essentially a TX81Z with a sequencer and effects- this is an affordable source of real FM sounds. Great at producing the booming low ends, thrashing percussive sounds, and the tweaked-out bizarre noises FM is known for. There is even a "Quick Edit" button that essentially tweaks the FM Operators in real-time in somewhat random/awesome/unpredictable ways- great for producing sonic mayhem. This box can do a lot, and with an editor like SoundDiver or Yseditor for Atari, this thing becomes EXTREMELY powerful." A bit Mad Max looking.

Update via Loscha in the comments: "One of the finest, most innovative things Yamaha ever made.
It's a Tx81z with a basic effects unit, a sequencer, and a clock. Effects have a great gated reverse reverb. Think the "Silent Shout" album by The Knife (a few tracks have a horn-type sound that fades in with rev reverb, you can get that sound down pat easily).

The sound editing on it is intuitive, but, not complete. You can't edit everything, but, it's got a lot of useful Easy Edit parameters. Most useful for quick editing and tone optimization is the ability to change the waveforms of the 4 operators from the panel.

The sequencer has a metronome mode which is quite loud and pervasive. It is added to the mix post volume control. This can be routed to a jack on the side very easily, so that when you put something in the jack it mutes it, or you can route it to another channel. Timing is pretty good the sequencer.

The effects chip has a digital stream in and out, and is thus glitchable, although, I've only done this to mine once or twice. It's too precious to lose to a circuit bending disaster.

I have service manual if anyone needs any questions asker. Although, I should take some internal photos and include instructions on clock out for y'all one day!

Did I mention it has a clock and a calender on it?
