Buchla Donut & The "Ratchet"...

YouTube Uploaded by genxtargetmarket on Jul 10, 2011

"This was an effort to see if I could emulate the tracking modes of The Harvestman's Hertz Donut module with my Buchla 200e system. I used some information from boobtube356 (as read on the Muffwiggler forum where he goes by "dougcl") as a starting point. Additional noise is added by the ever-yellow KV-100 from Metasonix."

The "Ratchet" in Pendulum/Ratchet(3rd Party Pleasures)

YouTube Uploaded by genxtargetmarket on Jul 10, 2011

"I felt like exploring some of the other offerings in the world of Buchla 200. The Kilpatrick K4816 Pattern Generator is running the show. I've got the Eardrill Pendulum/Ratchet (P/R) employed as a Burst Generator. Whoo-Hoo! "Burst" and "Pattern" Generators in one go.
You'll notice that I've also leveraged the thoughtful design layout of the P/R wherein the Buchla 266e Source of Uncertainty (SOU) is merely a shorting bar away. In this case, I'm having the SOU change the density of pulses from the "Tock" output and am also having it change the speed of the P/R's clock. This varies things up quite nicely.

The Eardrill Pulse Balloons module is acting as a Pulse Train limiter and A/D Generator (yes, that's 3 function generators in total now). It is triggering the 2nd 261e dual oscillator's 292e LPG. It is also simultaneously varying the Modulation Index of the oscillator.

Special cameo appearances from the ladies in my life. Better audio is posted on the almighty Muffwiggler forum as I'm too lazy to lay the audio in here.

A good guide to making your own bongo sounds is detailed in the YouTube video by Make Noise. Just search for "QMMG Make Noise bongo" and you'll find it."

Buchla 250e as cv recorder, sample/hold style

YouTube Uploaded by brandonrsmith23 on Apr 26, 2011

"Demo of technique using the 250e to record cv being fed in externally by using 'Fix', an idea @boobtube356 (aka dougcl) suggested, which works quite well! Fix, it turns out, is a little different than the other buttons on the 250e in that it can be hit on the fly without the stage needing to be in edit mode, so you can just hold it down as it goes through the cycle to fix or unfix a stage. Once a stage is flipped into a fixed state, it needs to be unfixed if you want to try fixing another voltage, it won't just keep changing as it goes around and around. For some reason doing the vid it wasn't holding onto the 'time' when I tried that, but I swear it was last night! will look into that. anyway, pretty fun, lots of possibilities, like I still haven't played with this using strobe or continuous, and that is bound to be cool too, and doug was talking about using it in conjunction with another 250e or 251e, which kind of make my mind reel. need to try using it with numerology feeding in the cv too."

61 Buchla 292e Self Oscillating Patch

YouTube Uploaded by 7thDanSound on Apr 11, 2011

"I learnt from user boobtube356 that the Buchla 292e could be made to self oscillate. This may be useful to create another voice or simply to create another kind of sound. So as I just got my 292e I decided to try it."

Tonal Buchla Patch II

YouTube via Uploaded by boobtube356 on Mar 6, 2011

'258v into 292e into 291e. Sequence is 250e in strobe mode. 255 handles the envelopes. Pulses to 255 are AND of 266e QRV with 250e ALL output using the 254. Quick patch that sounded cool. Thought I would share."

follow-up to this post
"297 and 285e in feedback loop. Not completely oscillator free, since there is one in the 285e ring modding the signal in the feedback path. The adjustments here are to the 297 phase, and the notch. Also the 285e timbre control. Slight adjustments lead to big changes. The sequencer is patched to the 285e freq and the 297 phase."

Buchla 291e Resonance II

YouTube via boobtube356 | Feb 27, 2011 |

"Spent some time trying to incorporate white noise in a patch. This is white noise into the 291e, fed back, then AM'd using the 261e, then RM in the 285e. 281e in quadrature handles the morphing. 255 handles note lengths."

Buchla 259e Follow Up

YouTube via 7thDanSound | February 23, 2011 |

"This video is a bonus episode and follow up to a previous video. I was asked if the 259e was good at doing bass and got a few pointers from boobtube356 http://www.youtube.com/user/boobtube356 Great many thanks for that! This is very subtle and takes a lot of exploration to get the best out of. I suppose I'm just barely scratching the surface here.

Also, I found the top three wavetables to contain mostly noise but actually they don't. The FM index knobs scan some other memory area and creates interesting sounds. I had no idea!"

Buchla 223e Demo

YouTube via boobtube356 | February 04, 2011 |

"Quick demo using the 223e arpeggiator to drive the 250e (strobe mode). I have sixteen keys assigned in the arpeggiator. One per stage in the 250e. I am turning on and off the first two stages using the first two keys. The 223e is running in falling mode. It can also run in rising mode, triangle (pendulum), random, or "spiral." The 250e is not required, but it is a convenient way of setting the pitches."
