MOOG Little Phatty OS Update

Via Amos on the AH list:

"Howdy all,

Anyone on AH who has a Moog Little Phatty synthesizer may be interested to know that a new version of the firmware has been released as of today.

As has previously been discussed (although primarily offlist), the new firmware adds two new modulation sources, Noise and Sample & Hold. There are also a number of parameters which can now be saved per-patch, such as filter cutoff slope (number of filter poles), filter velocity response, pitch bend range (now asymmetrical, offering individual bend up & down ranges), legato mode (of which there is a new setting, EGR RESET, which clamps the envelopes to zero at the start of each new note, for some new dynamic possibilities)... also there is now Pot Mapping which allows you to assign the four analog pots arbitrarily to any parameter or external MIDI-CC. Full details are included in an addendum to the manual, which is included with the firmware download.

You can download the update for free from the Moog website;

Thanx for the bandwidth,

-Amos"

MOOG Movie on Showtime

If you have Showtime, and haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. Title link takes you to the showtimes.

Details:
"MOOG (TVPG - D)
A portrait of Robert Moog, the creator of the synthesizer that bears his name and the instrument that revolutionized popular music in the 20th century. From his early days as a theremin salesman to his invention of the device that would become the essential element in progressive rock, this documentary charts Moog's life and career, including interviews with members of such bands as Yes and Emerson, Lake & Palmer."

Here's a link to the MOOG Movie site. I also have the DVD listed on my movie list to the right, and the link for the image below takes you to the DVD on Amazon via my affiliate link. BTW, if you pick it up through my affiliate link you support this site without spending an extra cent. Also note that none of the ads on this site cost you a dime. I just want to be clear about that.

The Science of Musical Sounds

"A series of eight lectures ... given at the Lowell institute in January and February, 1914, under the general title of 'Sound analysis.' These lectures have been rewritten for presentation in book form."

"this is a full downloadable book with diagrams, photos of sound waves using archaic photographic techniques (which someone will now use on their next album cover), and lots of sine/cosine math stuff about sound and theory laying the groundwork for sampling and synthesis. these guys were photographing and measuring the properties of real instruments...the only thing they needed was the technology to then reproduce what they measured...which we now have. dope and very scientific. we have it so easy."

Update: To read the book when you get there just click on the first image on the top left under Summary. Once you get there use the arrow buttons in the blue bar on top, to flip through the pages.
