Dave Smith Instruments Prophet 12 Demo by INHALT and The Bunker Studio

Published on Apr 23, 2013 INHALTVIDEO·18 videos

"It's been several months since we last had the Prophet 12 at our studio, and now, the Dave Smith Instruments team has given us a second run to create more factory bank patches. Much has changed, and all for the better, with the Prophet 12.

Firstly, it sounds much larger than before and there are more wavetables. Secondly, the stereo field is incredible. We were able to use very subtle panning modulations to create a strong and wide sense of space with the patches we've programmed. Also, the user interface has been incredibly streamlined providing us with a very speedy workflow while assigning very complex modulations. Lastly, the new arpeggiator is unbelievable.

Our many thanks go to everyone at DSI. It's an honor to be making patches for the next Prophet synth.

This demo was recorded via a Neve Portico Preamp into a Digidesign 192 Pro Tools HD interface. We recorded this synth no differently than we record all of our other synths. Also, there is no MIDI on this demo. Everything was played by hand and used the onboard controls and modulators present on the Prophet 12. And there are absolutely zero Emerson, Lake, and Palmer impressions nor any keyboard equivalents of the "Stairway to Heaven" solo. Nor will there ever be on this channel.

Plan B Model 15 VCO (x2)
Plan B Model 39 Wave Splicer
Subcon/Plan B Model 37 Utility VCO/LFO
Plan B Model 9 Mixer
Plan B Model 7 ELF Panner
Output module (power) outputs/levels , light

Row 2:

Intelligel Quantizer
Intellijel microfold
Plan B Model 10 Envelope Generator (x2)

Using a Roland TR-909 as a MIDI Sequencer

TR-909 External Instrument Demo

"Here's a video I filmed an edited 3 years ago and never got around to uploading. In addition to programming rhythms with the 909's built-in drum sounds, you can also program rhythms on external MIDI gear. You can select any MIDI channel and program a pattern using MIDI notes 36 through 51 (the lowest C on a 61 note keyboard to D# an octave above. I start by programming a synth bass part (Roland Jupiter 6). Then, I add a simple drum pattern to it. Next, I move over to a second 909 and program a 2 bar pattern of chord stabs (Roland JD-800). I have to transpose the oscillators up a couple of octaves in order for this to work. Lastly, I program alternate drum notes on the 2nd 909 then hard pan the 2 drum machines for a stereo panning effect. During the filming, I accidently put the Sony VX-2000 into its "Demo Mode" which showcases some of the camera's built-in digital visual effects."

"Excellent conditon Mc4 sequencing package. The mc4 is a unique multitrack sequencer that is something of a combination of a classic analog sequencer and a midi sequencer. You can enter notes in with a cv keyboard just like you would on a midi sequencer, and record notes and gates, you can even do it realtime but you have have very good timing or slow down the sequence to get it exact. At first it seems a little complicated if you've never used one before, but if you read the manual its actually pretty straightforward.

The thing that people always talk about with these is the 'sound' of them.. as in the feel of the the timing and how it makes sequences sound. Its very different than the akai/roger linn etc feel. sounds much more robotic in a very cool way.. think Kraftwerk, Moroder, Yazoo etc. I really enjoyed using this machine to make multiple short, simple sequences running concurrently to make one more complex sequence.. there is a good video on youtube showing somebody doing this with a system 100m and mc4. comes with a ribbon cable for the op8 but not the dcb cable, this would be for sequencing a jupiter 8/ juno60. you would have to source one of those separately."

A little EMS VCS3 noise

Published on Apr 23, 2013 SynthDan1·3 videos

"Just unpacked the instrument and taking it for a quick spin. There's nothing quite like this thing. Its unbelievably trippy.

If it sounds a little like classic Doctor Who sound effects or crazy Pink Floyd synth effects, that's because this is the classic British synthesizer responsible for all those great works of art and many others. It's an incredibly bizarre instrument aimed not at melodic music-making but rather pure synthesis, pure synthy noise-making goodness."

"A self perpetuating generative patch on my Yusynth/Mfos home made Modular Synthesizer. The LFO is being used as clock for the sequencer and for the Sample and hold which is in turn modulating the LFO speed effectively creating a random clock. 4 oscillators modulated by the S&H, 2 of which are also being modulated by the 10 step sequencer. Moog filter on the left, Arp on the right, MFOS minisynth MKII in the middle. Original EH Memory Man analog delay and EH Holy Stain reverb."

"Novation BassStation Keyboard, a kick-ass modern analogue synthesizer covered in KNOBS with two octave keyboard. Monophonic with two oscillators, can produce tremendous bass or Moog-style analogue leads. 12/24dB filter can be smooth or can absolutely scream. Full MIDI implementation means you can control it fully with software, or use it as a controller for software or other synths. Super fun little synthesizer.

...has a chip out of one key (from a flying drumstick!) which doesn't affect playing at all; it is 100% working, no scratchy pots or jacks. Comes with power supply and user manual."
