Apparently the Henry Ford Museum in Grosse Point, Michigan has the early Moog pictured below listed in their collection. Title link takes you to their Musical Instrument Collection page wher you can see it. If anyone has seen it in person please feel free to comment. Update: Just heard someone saw it on display in the Detroit airport. I remember hearing about a Moog in O'Hare; I wonder if the two were mixed up and it was actually in Detroit? If anyone knows, please comment.
Update: Word is this piece is in the Detroit airport.

Wood and Metal Made by Robert Moog
1964-1965 United States
Depth 19-1/4"; Width 36-5/8"; Height 8 -1/4"
Hmm, I'll have to go see that...too bad it's on the other side of the state.
ReplyDeleteCTB from VSE lives (somewhere) in Detroit; perhaps he's seen it? I'll post this there if someone hasn't yet.
i went to the henry ford museum to see this. i found the musical section, and no moog was to be found. i investigated and was told that the musical instrument section of the museum had suffered from a fire and some of the instruments were not there anymore. they didn't say exactly what happened to the moog though.
ReplyDeleteIt was at the Detroit airport. When in doubt search the AH archives...
ReplyDeleteMy local museum in S.E.London has a Moog Prodigy...

They also have an Oberheim 4 voice, listed as a digital synth (!), and a very battered DX7.
But there's also lots of very cool stuff, like a glass harmonium. Well worth a visit if you're in London.
A digital 4 voice oberheim! Too funny. I seem to remember when I was a kid, the sounds coming from analog synths had the mystique of being computer generated music.
