It's very cool and loads of fun indeed. The only thing I don't get is the whole "I spent 3 grand on my modular and I hardly sound like a-four-hundred-dollar-hardwired analog synth" story! which is becoming very popular! "Mudule Waste" is in...

Totally. It has to be a hardware thing. I haven't crossed over to the hardware modular world myself. I just can't afford it and I find I like playing poliphonically the most. But... I bet when I finally do spend some quality time with a modular I'll have to have one and I'll justify the price. As for synthesis of sound, there are definitely some cheaper alternatives out there. There's the free Clavia G2 software for one and then there are the likes of the ION or Micron for a cheap poly harware with knobs and pretty deep programming.
